Why I love Keba and Your Pie (and every other Oconee restaurant)
I wonder about the continued economic viability of the shopping centers they are located in, I sometimes think there is no way they can be making enough money, but then something happens friendly and positive enough to make me think they are going to succeed.
I would urge everyone to go buy dinner or lunch at these or any number of local restaurants this Spring Break week and let the owners or employees know you appreciate their local presence. Oconee County has not had that many restaurants that very long, and we have had some close recently too (Taco Stand). So please purchase food there as soon as possible. Sometimes we take for granted the choices we had a hand, and then they are gone.
Success is a fickle beast, and restaurants are seasoning of economic soul as a community.

People will not remember the difference in McDonald's and Wendy's and Cracker Barrels and Subways that are here because they are designed to be exactly the same.
The big Bulldog on the side of the Waffle House, the spice of Hot Thomas' BBQ sauce, the feta sauce at Keba, the pesto sauce at Mirko's, the plantains at Tlaloc, the extra seasoning on the crinkle fries at Zaxby's, the super bagel at Kumquat Mae, the versatility of Chef Jose Zambrano at Girasoles, the smiles at Krimson Kafe, the peanut based pizza made at Your Pie exactly the way you wanted; these are the things that will make permanent memories and make people come back to Oconee County and Watkinsville time and time again. The funky bands on a Friday night at Jittery Joe's or Kumquat Mae's open mic nights will pack the house on most evenings.

These are the culinary clinchers keeping tourists and locals alike coming to your restaurant over and over again. I say keep Oconee odd. Keep Watkinsville wacky. You can go your own way and make money too.
The economy continues to do well in local markets, and will continue to do so if you go and buy some fresh baked local goods from one of the two downtown bakeries in Watkinsville, or have a sandwich at one of our local eateries. Or buy some art or donate to some musician or leave a large tip for a deserving server, or go to Ashford Manor or Ashford on Main.
