Family Fun Day at Library needs better parking

I love our library here in Watkinsville. I wish they had better funding and longer hours. My complaint here however has to do with the one day a year when every parent and child descends on the Experiment Station Road facility for Family Fun Day. I am grateful for the massive amounts of people who arrive in vehicles. I hope they can park somewhere else besides the neighboring United States Postal facility. If you are trying to mail a parcel or buy some stamps, forget it unless you want to go park out by the rolls of razor wire fence necessarily on the ground to prevent prisoners from escaping. I certainly don't want parents to be showing their juveniles the benefits of razor wire unless absolutely necessary. I did see a dad with a kid on his shoulders doing exactly that today,  which is their right in a free country.

May 2014 Watkinsville City Council meeting breezes by with no major incidents

Image
Nothing very exciting occurred at the May 2014 meeting of the Watkinsville city council Wednesday evening at the Community Center. Christine and Russ Mills answer the Council. About the most shocking news was that Mayor Charles Ivie cannot locate the original plans for the flat roofed building that is the Community Center in possibly replacing the leaky roof (which got a stern test with the rains Wednesday evening). He apparently looked at every set of blueprints in the storage of the very 1970s looking community center. Christine Mills answers questions about her proposed building permit. A new house was approved for the loveliest street in Watkinsville at 35 Harden Hill Road with the building permit for the Russ and Christine Mills family. The approval was unanimous after a few cursory queries from Council members Mike Huff and Marci Campbell. Mayor Ivie received approval of the monthly reconciliation report and gave a SPLOST breakdown and preview of the 2015 fi

Donnan trial verdict rests in Jury's deliberations now

Image
A group of a dozen Athens, Georgia area Jurors have the guilt or innocence of former UGA football coach Jim Donnan in their hands this afternoon as part of the Federal racketeering scandal alleging a Ponzi scheme with used sporting goods out of West Viriginia. The trial is taking place in the courtroom of Judge Ashley Royal in  United States District Court in Athens next to the Post Office. Donnan has 41 counts that the Jury must now vote on each before rendering their verdicts. Essentially the trial hinges on whether Donnan knowingly swindled investors in the GLC Holdings sporting goods from West Virginia. Ed Tolley heads the Donnan legal team. Former University of Georgia football coach Jim Donnan and his legal team prepare to re-enter the United States District Court room in Athens, Georgia as part of his Ponzi scheme accusation that has attracted many different coaches and athletes from the early 1990s and early 2000s of NCAA and professional athletic stature.
