Weird scenes from inside the sausage factory: Hice campaign appropriates Bryant's voice without approval for robo-calls

Image
From Tim Bryant's personal Facebook page: Some of you are getting robocalls for the Jody Hice for Congress campaign, calls which feature my voice. Let me be clear: I am NOT endorsing Jody Hice. Nor, for that matter, am I endorsing Mike Collins. I do not endorse. I am sorry for those of you who are being subjected to those calls; I prefer that listeners seek out my voice rather than have it thrust upon them. I had nothing to do with it, and I will now explore options (if there are any) for making it stop. Twice in two days: GOP attacks Better Georgia, again

Image
This is pretty lame, even by Georgia GOP standards Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note® II -------- Original message -------- From: "Bryan Long, Better Georgia" Date:07/09/2014 11:07 AM (GMT-05:00) To: Dan Matthews Subject: Twice in two days: GOP attacks Better Georgia, again According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution , Georgia Republicans have drawn a target on Better Georgia . Thank you to more than 100 donors who gave just yesterday in response to the first attack on Better Georgia this week. Now, for the second time in two days, Better Georgia has become the target of frivolous ethics complaints , and we need you to to fight with us now as we push back these baseless, politically-motivated attacks. Chip in $3 now. Last night, a second ethics complaint against Better Georgia was given to a Georgia blogger who's been paid $75,000 by Nathan Deal to " help him with grassroots ." We assume the complaint will also be filed wit

Jody Hice Smears Libertarian Movement to High Heaven

Another informative post from Chief Deputy J. Lee Weems of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office regarding jurisdiction and cooperation (borrowed from Facebook)

Oconee County Georgia Sheriff's Office I just fielded a call from a very angry citizen. The citizen made the call convinced that there was wrongdoing on the part of one of our deputies, and his tone was extremely accusatory. He saw an Oconee County Sheriff's Office vehicle across the line in Walton County, and he was convinced that the deputy was running RADAR in Walton County, and he wanted to know why we were out of our jurisdiction. First, Deputy Sheriffs have statewide jurisdiction. We are not municipal pol ice officers. There is a difference. Second, according to 17-4-23 OCGA, any officer can enforce traffic law anywhere in the state. This code section was interpreted to have this meaning in the cases of State v. Gheris, 528 S.E.2d 300, 242 Ga. App. 324 (2000); and Glazner v. State, 318 S.E.2d 233, 170 Ga. App. 810 (1984). Upon being told all of the this, the citizen angrily accused of using Oconee County tax money to protect the citizens of

Sober Christianity congressional assessment from a very good moderator last night

From the daily email Todd Rehm sends out: Collins and Hice I moderated the debate in Oconee County between Mike Collins and Jody Hice for the Republican nomination for Congress in the Tenth District. Hice is a fine candidate on the stump and outperformed Mike Collins, but one thing he said gave me pause. The question was whether Christianity is under attack in America, the role of Christianity in government, and whether the federal government should play a role in the issue. Jody Hice said, "Government has every reason not to restrict and suppress religion and Christianity but to embrace it, and promote it, and allow it to flourish. For therein, and only therein, is an environment in which limited state government can exist in our lives." That's a small snippet of a longer answer to the question, but that excerpt concerns me as a Chrisitan and a Conservative. The concern I have is that as a Conservative, I believe that go

Packed house at Oconee County Library - Collins compares very well against Hice's hostility and ineptitude

Who is the more non-establishment Republican candidate for Congress in the 10th District of Georgia? Who wants to close more departments in government? Who is going to settle the debt all by themselves quicker? The answer to these and other absurd questions were given lip service, but with no real substance last night at the Oconee County GOP forum at the Oconee County Library on Experiment Station Road in Watkinsville last night. Among those in attendance were former two-time 10th district Congressional candidate Stephen Simpson of Milledgeville, who is endorsing Collins after getting 36% less in this primary than the last time he took on Paul Broun in 2012. These and many more questions were refereed very well by political professional and blogger Todd Rehm Wednesday evening at the Library on Experiment Station Road. There were very few empty chairs and people on the walls and in the halls. Candidate Jody Hice struck me as being a

James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.

GOP Senate candidates Perdue, Kingston talk taxes

The Associated Press sat down recently with the two Republicans competing for Georgia’s open Senate seat to discuss three key issues. Rep. Jack Kingston of Savannah and former Dollar General CEO David Perdue will meet in a runoff July 22, and the winner will face Democrat Michelle Nunn in the fall. Below is a discussion on tax reform and how to tackle the nation’s $17.5 trillion debt. Candidate remarks have been edited in some places for length. Do you believe the United States can substantially reduce its debt by only cutting spending and not seeking additional sources of revenue, and what sort of additional revenues might be possible? KINGSTON:  I believe we have a spending problem, not a taxing problem, that we have to rein in spending. There is a lot of duplications. For example, there are 47 different federal job training programs. And that would mean 47 managers, 47 locations, 47 desks, 47 sets of telephones and policies and letterheads. We actually have passed in the Ho
