Most all of us are motivated by wanting to leave a positive impact as our legacy. I know last night I had to console a very sad 12-year-old basketball player who was equally disappointed that his team lost by missing a last second shot and his lack of playing time to make an impact on the outcome. I write this not to reflect poorly on his coach or teammates, but to reflect on the passing of Whitney Houston and wondering what we will all be remembered by when we pass. That is the one thing we unquestionably have in common no matter what our believes or faith. But let us strive to understand and appreciate our differences as something to celebrate rather than discriminate. The truck honk ed continuously while passing and then nearly hit the front rider. The truck then proceeded 30 meters ahead and slammed on its brakes, skidding in the process. Although a dozen seasons have passed since the Oconee County Warriors undefeated State Championship football team, the Georgia Dome is seeking a helmet from all of the teams who have played in the artificial turf indoor stadium in Atlanta. Oconee County and Coach Mitch Davis were included on a list seeking a donation of a helmet for a display case inside of the facility that the Atlanta Falcons call home. I would imagine there is a pretty good chance that the North Oconee Titans will be donating a helmet after this post-season. But remember the Titans will have a stern test with an Atlanta road trip to the real Westminster in  an opener for the once beaten Bogart area school still reeling from a tragic and fatal auto accident this past weekend. Why would we want a grocery store in the midst of the busiest traffic thoroughfare in Oconee County? This is what you get when the more narrow minded members of the Oconee County Planning Commission continues to drive our economic engine into the ground. Sure the zoning and planning may actually conform to the prospect of such a project, but for once does the neighborhood have anything to say about what stores get rammed down their throats? Bruce MacPherson, Bill Yarborough and George Rodrigues are the three members of the Planning Commission who vote with some regularity against moronic development in our community, and kudos to them for doing that.
