Some had feared voicing opinions about principal || OnlineAthens.com

I hope we have not suppressed our feelings about our school leaders, and if you need a forum to do so, please do it here. My very limited feedback heard from the community was predominantly negative about the former North Oconee High School principal. I hope he excels in Putnam County, a county with a very different make-up socio-economically speaking. Yes I worked at the newspaper in Eatonton under the tutelage of Oconee Leader editor Rob Peecher, who kept telling me how great he though Matchbox 20 was. William's future

Image
Friend -- I want to tell you about a family in Minnesota. Justin and Kari live in Brooklyn Park, right outside of Minneapolis. They're parents to three children. Their three-year-old, William, was born with a genetic disorder called tuberous sclerosis complex. For the rest of his life, William will wrestle with tumors in his brain, his heart, his kidneys, his skin, and possibly other major organs. He must take medication to control seizures and faces the threat of kidney disease. What Justin and Kari want for William is a future. And because of health reform, that's what he'll have. Today, insurance companies are no longer able to discriminate against William because of the condition he's dealt with since birth. Now, Justin and Kari know they'll be able to get the kind of care that William needs -- today and into the future. Their story isn't unique, but it's one of many that need to be told. We all know people whose lives have been changed becau

O'Dillon marks 25 years as police chief in Watkinsville || OnlineAthens.com

Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon has been nothing but kind to me and every other resident and visitor to Watkinsville I have ever seen or heard him deal with in any way, shape or manner. He came up with the cross walk over Harden Hill Road to the driveway of Ashford Manor and regularly conducts traffic himself. I was unaware of his radio background. I have only seen him out of uniform once and that was at a car race up in Jefferson I think it was, and I was relieved to know he had interests outside of law enforcement. He is a fine representative for this county seat. O'Dillon marks 25 years as police chief in Watkinsville || OnlineAthens.com

Town Of North High Shoals February Notes from Fred

Former Duke University wrestler and North High Shoals city council member Fred Johnson gives great updates on the town on the river and shoals. Woven brightly,  Daniel J. Matthews, Jr. Date: Mon, 21 Mar 2011 17:53:36 -0700 From: ilovehighshoals@yahoo.com Subject: TONHS February Notes from Fred To: ilovehighshoals@yahoo.com Dear Fellow High Shoalers,                                                                              March 21, 2010             Flowers are blooming in the park.  I am especially enjoying the Carolina Jasmine that David has been nurturing on the fence in the park. You may have noticed the rise of the cell tower in the center of town; all aspects of its construction were monitored by the town.  The Council has been discussing hosting a community meeting to gather input about priorities for roads.  If you have any strong opinions about where the town should focus their next road project, let the Council know.  There's more going on below in the note

Upcoming water events in the area (river-related)

Ben Emanuel spoke at the Oconee County Democratic Committee meeting last Thursday at Jittery Joe's in Watkinsville on St. Patrick's Day evening. The leader of the Oconee River Project led a far-ranging discussion about everything anyone wanted him to address about water and reservoirs in the area. He mentioned so many events coming up the end that I made sure he emailed them to me so I would not get them wrong. Woven brightly,  Daniel J.
