Schedule of Events



 Friday, March 25th

  • Friday arrivals for the State Committee or GADCC meeting are invited to a wine and cheese reception hosted by Richmond County Chair Dr. Lowell Greenbaum. Please enjoy this fellowship at the Morris Museum of Art (second floor) directly across from the Marriott Hotel at Two Tenth Street from 5pm to 7pm.


 Saturday, March 26th

  • The Board of Directors of the Georgia Association of Democratic Chairs (not all Chairs) will meet at the Marriott Hotel from 10am until Noon in the Cumming Meeting Room.  For more information, please contact Dr. Lowell Greenbaum at (706) 833-3291 or Lowellg13@comcast.net.

  • The first State Committee Meeting of the Democratic Party of Georgia under new Chairman Mike Berlon is at the Marriott Hotel from 1pm to 4pm in the Estes Exhibit Hall. Registration will start at 11:30.

  • Our inaugural field office outside of Atlanta will open within walking distance of the Marriott immediately after the State Committee meeting. All attendees are encouraged to meet new Chairman Mike Berlon and Columbia County Commission Candidate Vernon Thomas. The field office is at 1101 Greene Street (706-722-8111). Media is expected and all participants are encouraged to attend. 

The DPG Room Rate in the Marriott is $109 if you request the DPG block of rooms. Please call them at (706) 722-8900 ASAP to reserve this rate.

The Marriott Hotel is located at Two Tenth Street (map). There is construction near the hotel, and attendants will be available to show you where to park.
Directions to Augusta: Exit 200 (River Watch Parkway) off of I-20. Exit left to downtown. Continue on River Watch Parkway (do not exit to the medical center) until it ends and continue directly on Jones to 10th St. Make left turn and the Hotel is on your right. Those coming in a different direction from I-20, use a GPS to guide you. The Hotel # is 706-722-8900 for help. Those wishing to snack should make a right turn on 10th St to Broad St and right to the Mellow Mushroom or others on 12th and 13th St. (Huddle House and Subway).

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. I live a far from perfect life myself but long ago and far away I learned how and when not to drink. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
