Gen. T.R.R. Cobb Camp No. 97 Sons of Confederate Veterans Thursday June 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Watkinsville Community Center VFW  Drive.   In July 1864, during the Federal march on Atlanta, Union troops entered the town of Roswell and burned three textile mills.  Under explicit orders from Gen. W. T. Sherman about 400 civilian mill workers, mostly women and children, were abducted and transported to Marietta; from there they were transported north and the fate of most of them remains unknown.  Whiteman is the Park Historian for the Kennesaw National Battlefield. 

Despite a full house and agenda, the brief July meeting of the Watkinsville City Council was considerably dampened by the declaration of the 70 year old Trustee Roy "Doc" Crawford of the Watkinsville First Christian Church going off on the three City Council members present and Mayor Charles Ivie about the storm water run off ostensibly caused by the Town Center development and the lack of water run off planning by this and the former municipal administration of Joe Walter. Civil War re-enactors address the city council with Stephen Simpson watching "Six and a half hours of soaking up water with shop vacs two days in a row," complained Crawford about the second flooding of the basement in the longtime Watkinsville landmark located at 4 North Main Street. Cobb Camp #97 Sons of Confederate Veterans and The Laura Rutherford Chapter #88  United Daughters of the Confederacy request the honor of your presence on April 22, 2012 at Confederate Memorial Day Observances in Historic Watkinsville , Georgia . A flagpole and marker dedication to all Oconee Confederate Soldiers will begin at 2:00 p. m. in the Watkinsville Cemetery . A memorial dedication for two civilians who died in a Union prison will begin at 3:15 p.m. in front of Eagle Tavern.  A reception for all to enjoy will be held after the second ceremony.

Sons of Confederate Veterans The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) is a 501(c)(3)  non-political heritage organization formed in Richmond, VA. in 1896.  It is not affiliated with any other organization. All these businesses received unanimous approval by the City Council in an otherwise brief meeting.
