I do wish this were another evening as it will be exactly opposite the first Ashford Manor Bed and Breakfast Concerts on the Lawn series of the season. Subject: May 17 OCHS Meeting Everyone -   Gary Doster has agreed to present his talk entitled "Elijah Clarke and the Trans-Oconee Republic (1794)" at our Monday, May 17 OCHS meeting at OCAF.  I had the pleasure to hear the talk at the Oglethorpe HS meeting a couple of years ago.  It's a very interesting and you will enjoy it.  The meeting starts at 7 pm.   Ben

Even though Elijah Clarke's short lived independent state of 1794 did not include modern day Oconee County, it is always an interesting look back at our history. There is a talk tonight by Steve Scurry at Cine' that might touch on this: Steve Scurry is giving a presentation this Sunday, April 27, called "Defending the Beloved Land." He will be reporting on his latest findings about the Oconee War, a little known conflict between the Creek Nation and early White settlers that occurred in Georgia in the late 1700s. The presentation will be held at Athens Cine from 6-9pm. Suggested donation is $3.
