SPLOST passes easily, Michael Ward defeats Janet Jones in Bogart

By nearly identical 2-1 resounding ratios, the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax passed (1039 to 400) and Michael Ward defeated Janet Jones (60 to 31) in Bogart in the special election Tuesday night in Oconee County, Georgia. The biggest shocker on this St. Patrick's Day Tuesday evening is that once again we are teased with the prospect of leaving Madison County itinerant State Senator Ralph Hudgens behind us as he claims he is running for State Insurance Commissioner, currently held by John Oxendine who is running for Governor rather poorly at the moment.

Hudgens to keep State Senate seat; drops out of race for 10th Congressional Special Election

I think Ralph Hudgens must have been reading the blogs or at least the tea leaves indicating he had no chance in Hell of winning the Special Election for Dr. Charlie Norwood's seat in the US Congress. Maybe this will spur Brian Kemp or Doc Eldridge to drop their hats in the ring, so we are back down to 10 candidates (nine announced) for the June 19th race. Hudgens has too much baggage from his malapportionment boondoggle of Athens-Clarke County a year ago plus.
