Oconee County, GA Politics

As anyone who has met and talked to me for more than five minutes can routinely attest to, I am a red blooded American 48-year-old heterosexual male. I guess that my 12 year old son was not a big enough give away for some of our more narrow-minded gossip deprived bigots. I am responding to a rumor reported to me by a contemporary who heard from his father that some rather frightened right wing elements of our community were busy engaging in a smear campaign questioning my sexuality. First of all, as if it is any of anyone's business what my sexual preference is or is not, and second of all, what difference would it be as to how one might govern? Do we really have to descend to this level of attack? This is yet another last second personal political ploy to distract and divide us, instead of reaching some kind of consensus about which candidate knows more about the issues that matter to Watkinsville residents every day. Oconee County Georgia Sheriff's Office In reference to the debit card fraud cases, rumors of a single local merchant having been identified as a source are completely untrue. The Secret Service is still analyzing processing equipment, and they still do not have all of the equipment in their labs. Also, as we have previously stated, we have no evidence that any local merchants are complicit in the data thefts.

Sometimes decisions can be misreported, misunderstood and confusion reigns supreme. I am just as guilty as anyone, sometimes spreading rumors as if it were facts.  A current member of the Oconee County Board of Education was reported to be resigning his (or her) position on the B.O.E. when in fact this person merely resigned their position at their day job instead. So anyone contemplating signing up to replace this person in an appointment sense will instead have to wait until the next election cycle.

I am awaiting independent confirmation, but sources indicate that a member of the Oconee County Board of Education is moving out of the county and resigning his (or her) position on the BOE. Stay tuned for further details as they become available.

Former UGA football player and Veterinarian Sonny Perdue, currently lame duck Repubilcan Governor of Georgia, has reportedly been "set up" to be the next President of the University of Georgia. This might come as a surprise to current UGA President Michael Adams, who has long been rumored to be the replacement for the late Miles Brand, the former head of the NCAA. Needless to say, this is all extremely intriguing speculation without the least bit of corroboration, but it does come from a Washington, DC source. This will make for a whole lot of denials of hob
