Top 40 favorite Oconee County Georgia Republicans of 2012

My Top 40 favorite local Republicans - only prerequisite would be a general willingness to accept Democratic leaning people for exactly who they are in whatever narrow, ill-defined context I choose to obfuscate. Also the less these individuals subscribe to any wing nut views, the much better for my as of yet undetermined purpose. Once upon a time there was a descriptive term called a Moderate that seems to have gone the way of the Dodo bird and has become extinct. I would not want to besmirch this august group of individual political people with that broad a brush stroke, but if the shoe fits....for some this is a snub, for others an honor. I welcome your ribald commentary, your additions, deletions, and shrieks. 1. Brian Brodrick 2. Ashley Hood 3. Kyle Martin 4. Chuck Toney 5. Chuck Horton 6. Melvin Davis 7. Jim Luke 8. Pam Lohr Hendrix 9. Tammy Gilland 10. Angela Watson 11. Jennifer Riddle 12. "Elaine from Watkinsville Republicans" 13. Henry Norman 14. Seve...

An opportunity to view film Carving Up Oconee

Image
Subject: opportunity to view film This was sent out by Melissa Piche and I agree with her that the film is worth seeing if you haven't already seen it.  Even if you have watching it again with a new audience and participating in the discussion afterwards might also be enlightening. I wanted to tell everyone that Celestia Sharp will be showing her film "Carving up Oconee" at the Oconee Library July 21st at 2:00. There will be a panel discussion after the showing of the Documentary. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend you take this opportunity to view it and meet and discuss the film and its pertinence to the current growth in Oconee County. This is a wonderful film and a great chance to meet Celestia. I was very enlightened by the experience.

Watkinsville grants permit to raze two buildings behind Ashford Memorial Methodist Church

Image
Two deteriorating buildings between Ashford Memorial Methodist Church and Ashford Manor Bed and Breakfast have been added to the clean up job Mayor Charles Ivie as far as tearing down old properties around Watkinsville. The house slated to be razed The Pink House as it was known and an adjacent structure were a building used by the church for years but has fallen into disrepair recently. The council joylessly approved the demolition permit unanimously without Brian Brodrick or Toby Smith present at the July meeting. Former City Attorney R. Judson Huff made an appearance before the council representing the church and clearly it was an issue longf nagging at the local congregation. Mike Link advised Huff to contact Georgia Power to get a cuff on the power line near there in case of accidental contact with the equipment necessary for the destruction of these historic but seldom used properties. Huff also inquired as to whether or not there was a gas line in the building. ...

Berry blasts Downs for being irresponsible in posting county credit card numbers

So it seems it comes down to this: do you want someone who knows the ropes or do you want someone to clean house? Again, I urge voters to back Sheriff Berry and not just because Trey Downs briefly posted some credit card numbers in his zeal. It seems our current Sheriff made some enemies a while back because he took a young, drunken man off the roads as well as the Nationwide and NASCAR circuit who had family connections to the Zaxby's wealth. I would imagine if everyone arrested in the last 20 years in Oconee County got together and backed a stealth candidate whose parents had run a day care center that any incumbent would be in serious trouble. I think this race is going to be very close, but I urge all voters in Oconee County to ask for a Republican ballot in either the advanced voting or on July 3 and check the little box next to Scott Berry's name. I have had open records requests made on me when I ran for office twice last year. I had to do an open records request to fi...

Trey Downs Posts, Then Removes, County Credit Card Numbers in political ploy gone awry

Hey Wendell Dawson and Tony Townley and the rest of the contributors to the campaign of Trey Downs, would you like your credit card numbers posted on line for the rest of us to see and abuse? I don't think so. I hope this opens the eyes and minds of some of the last few undecided voters in Oconee County as to why Mr. Downs needs a little more seasoning and experience before he becomes Sheriff in this Oconee County. This act of negligence would border on criminal if it were not in the realm of political free speech. This is what we like to call a game changer.
