Wine tasting benefits animal shelters - Oconee Enterprise: Lifestyles

Again, the Oconee County government has repeatedly ignored the desires of their residents in refusing to build a new animal shelter. Glad we have Muddy Paws coming on the horizon, but this does not relinquish the Board of Commissioners from their responsibility to build a better animal shelter NOW. Historic overlay district off Elder Mill Road contested

The Oconee County government screwed the pooch on this one several years ago when recreation department plans had been drawn out with maps and blueprints and renderings and the whole nine yards, and they can correct their mistakes now but only through real leadership and decision making. Buy the damn park now people. Preserve our history. Protect Elder Mill Covered Bridge and the grist mill and the creek. It is not that difficult a decision.  Historic overlay district off Elder Mill Road contested

Wilkes seeks rezone for Watkinsville Storage expansion - Oconee Enterprise: News

I hope Commissioner Wilkes will have the decency to recuse himself from any such discussion during Board of Commissioners meetings that usually rubber stamp the Planning Commission's decisions. PS I fully support Mr. Evans and his business and the right to expand. I do not support any member of the government attempt to emotionally blackmail any other government entity with tales of financial woes or retirement worries as leverage to try to get something passed that benefits them directly.  Wilkes seeks rezone for Watkinsville Storage expansion - Oconee Enterprise: News

Watkinsville considering acquiring iconic local water tower

Image
4 people own it now, and they want to donate the iconic Watkinsville landmark to the city, Mayor Charles Ivie announced at the City Council meeting Wednesday. It is a long way from happening however, contingent on several factors. Insurance and other issues need to be resolved.  OCAF wants to be involved.   Neighbor Cindy Jarrell of Barnett Shoals Road said it was exciting about the (prospects of the city getting) the water tower during the City Council meeting at the Community Center Wednesday evening.

Oconee County Democratic Committee host Sanctuary event to watch GOP debate Oct. 28

The Oconee County Democratic Committee has spent $285.00 of their budget getting the technology necessary to bring a big screen viewing of the Republican Presidential debate Wednesday, October 28th at the Sanctuary, located at the corner of 2nd Street and Barnett Shoals Road in Watkinsville. The public is invited to witness this spectacle and are invited to donate any amount of political contribution to offset cost of this event. I still wish that the executives at CNBC would have a moment of clarity and sneak in Jon Stewart and Rachel Maddow to ask questions, but I suppose we would have to deal with Carl Quintanilla, Becky Quick, and John Harwood. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 CNBC Republican Debate 8pm ET (7pm CT, 5pm PT) - Main primetime debate 6pm ET (5pm CT, 3pm PT) - Undercard debate Aired On: CNBC Location: University of Colorado in Boulder Sponsors: CNBC Moderators: Carl Quintanilla, Becky Quick, and John Harwood Candidates : Candidates with at least 3% pollin

How to handle Fall Festival and OCAF Wine Fest in one weekend

Image
I had a truly wonderful time at both events in downtown Watkinsville this weekend.  The fall festival and the wine fest are two separate events, at two neighboring locations, and I doubt I was the only one to try to do both these weekend at Rocket Field and Ashford Manor. The highlights of the fall festival were very  many and too numerous to mention, but here I go: 1. finally meeting Officer Berisko of the Oconee County Animal Shelter, 2. seeing Amanda Jane and having the lovely cheesecake cupcakes of her new business partner Bonnie at Little Cuckoo Chocolate booth, 3. having a crepe or two from Saphir and Kate at Holy Crepe, 4. meeting the husband and dad of my favorite Oconee County Animal Adoption people (thanks for Katrina), 5. finally meeting the wife of my favorite Oconee Enterprise journalist, 6. talking to random people I sat with including a very nice redhead who was attending with her parents and seemed to actually like Democratic people and wine, 7. huggi
