Moore's Ford invitation

Dear friends,
The Moore's Ford Memorial Committee cordially invites you to attend our Seventh Annual Scholarship Banquet, set for next Thursday, April 27 at the Sanctuary in downtown Watkinsville. We gather at 6:30 p.m., serve the meal (catered by Weaver D's Delicious Fine Foods) at 7 p.m., with program to follow. Fourteen finalists from five area public high schools of Athens-Clarke, Oconee and Walton Counties have been invited. We will award six $1,000 scholarships; the rest receive $100 merit awards.
Last year's program is attached. We are still revising the 2006 program.
Join in the fellowship and pay tribute to these fine young people nexThursday night, April 27. Let us honor these "living memorials" to the Dorseys and the Malcoms, two African American couples killed by a lynch mob at the Moore's Ford Bridge in 1946 . We in turn will be honored by your presence.
For those new to the story, see www.mooresford.org. According to recent news reports, the FBI has re-opened their investigation. We think at least two suspects in thes1946 killings are still alive.
Directions: take Hwy 441 to downtown Watkinsville, turn north at the light (Hwys 15/441 fork) on Barnett Shoals Road, go one block to The Sanctuary on the left - white, historic, wood frame church. More parking is available at Aunt Gail's Cafe on Barnett Shoals, directly across from the Sanctuary.
Admission: finalists and two guests apiece are admitted free; we charge $10 per person to this fund raising banquet, with children under twelve paying $5; payable at the door.
PLEASE RSVP, but only if you are coming. It is especially important to reserve your seat(s) - this event can sell out. Please respond no later than Tuesday evening, April 20. Dexter Weaver needs a head count.
Featured speakers include Mr. Stanley Kelly, CEO of the Community Bank of Loganville, who recently gave $10,000 for our scholarship endowment fund. But our main focus will be these fourteen finalists.
This banquet is our Main Event . These young people really put their hearts and souls into their applications. If you only attend one Moore's Ford event this year, let it be this.
Donations: Mr. Kelley's gift went directly into our endowment - we are still fundraising for this banquet. Please bring your check books to the dinner for our collection OR, if you are unable to attend, please mail your tax free gift to: MFMC Scholarships, 1851 Rays Church Road, Bishiop, GA 30621-1206. The MFMC is a 501(c)3 non profit.
Best wishes from our "Moore's Ford family,"
Rich Rusk, Secretary
