Brian Brodrick wants you to run, jog or walk for 5K like a frightened bird

I’m serving as co-director for the Scarecrow 5K (presented by Zaxbys) again this year. I’d love it if any of you could come to the race, or if you can’t, share the link below to the entry form with a friend or family member who would like to run or walk in the event. It will be this Saturday in Watkinsville, Ga. just 10 minutes from Athens, and will be on a nice rolling course. Race start is at 8 a.m.

Most importantly, we will have a festive, long sleeved t-shirt (let me know if you want to see what it looks like in advance) and wonderful pottery awards by John Winterhawk (www.winterhawkpottery.com). Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
