Sherry Jackson, Bobby Saxon stop by Oconee County Democratic Committee meeting Thursday evening in Watkinsville
After a pre-meeting meal at the new far-too-fluorescently bright Dickey's Bar-B-Que at Butler's Crossing, State Senate candidate Sherry Jackson and US Congressional candidate Bobby Saxon both made appearances at the Oconee County Democratic committee's regular monthly meeting at the Courthouse's Grand Jury Room Thursday evening. This may be the last meeting in the Courthouse as it has been rumored to be meeting in the Courthouse Annex down on Highway 15 once again in November.
Jackson spoke of her background in Walton County and her first job washing dishes for $1.25 an hour in the Walton County Hospital in Monroe. She received scholarships from the University of Georgia and the Law School here, and her Law School professor Sarajane Love walked in right on cue.
Saxon spoke at length and passionately about his faith, his roots in Oconee County and his duty to his country in the National Guard in Iraq and elsewhere. He has been campaigning hard from Hart County to Augusta, Columbia County to Towns County and Toccoa.
He has received lots of support of Dr. Paul Broun's former primary opponent Barry Fleming. Saw Bobby again briefly at the Vice Presidential candidate debate gathering at Little Kings, although I went across the street to watch it at Cine after getting a couple of t-shirts.
The Oconee County Democratic Committee can use your books, CDs, gently used clothes, furniture, sporting goods, and other quality donated items for their yard sale at the same time of the Oconee County Fall Festival at Rita Bennett's house at the corner of Second Street and School Street near Rocket Field.
