We have a terrific event planned at Rock Eagle next month! (See the press release below.) It is a rally for statewide candidates, and so far ALL the serious, announced candidates have said YES! Do call me if you all would like to buy tickets.

PRESS RELEASE: Aug 31, 2009
            Of the 18 announced Democratic candidates for statewide office in the 2010 Georgia elections, 15, including all six gubernatorial candidates, have confirmed they will attend an event at Rock Eagle on September 19 to meet and greet Democratic voters.
            The dinner, dubbed "Meet, Greet and Eat With the 2010 Democratic Candidates," is being organized by the leadership of Democratic parties in eight central Georgia counties – Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Jasper, Jones, Morgan, Putnam, and Wilkinson. All Democrats are invited, and tickets are $15 each.
            Besides those for Governor, also featured will be state candidates for Attorney General, Secretary of State, School Superintendent, and Insurance Commissioner. Each will be given time to speak to the audience, and voters will also be able to chat with the candidates before, during and after dinner.
            "The 2010 General Election will be a defining moment for Georgia Democrats," said Patsy Harris, chair of the Morgan County Democratic Committee, "and we smaller counties in the region are pulling together to provide a venue for our voters to better know this fine slate of candidates."

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
