Oconee Road Czar part II

As long as I have the imperial power to do as please with the public transportation of this county, my next two targets would be the Oconee County campus of Gainesville State College and the Athens Academy access.


  1. The two parts of Bishop Farms Parkway shall be joined immediately, with proper work assuring the wetland control and possible bridge or other way to maintain the ecological integrity of the area.
  2. Secondary access to the 441 By-pass possibly involving the connected Bishop Farms Parkway or at least out of the parking lots. This would do wonders for Experiment Station and Government Station Roads after classes let out.
  3. Hagood Lane will be built out across to Summit Circle to supply the Congressman Paul Broun's backdoor to connect with Athens Academy so parents like me won't have to drive 70 on 441 to get to LaVista or Spartan Lane via Mason Mill or any other cut throughs.
  4. All neighboring subdivision shall be immediately available to have connectivity with the next closest subdivision without having to traverse the main road, i.e.  just above the elbow of Katie Lane connecting it with Taylor Drive (or Court) to avoid having to traverse Simonton Bridge. 
  5. Sidewalks shall be built in all subdivisions immediately and all new subdivisions shall have bike paths and sidewalks as a mandatory feature of the streets. 
  6. Sidewalks down Daniells Bridge Road and Hog Mountain are desperately needed and shall be enacted upon immediately. If you have ever tried to walk that route you would know what I mean.
  7. No more sidewalks to nowhere or at least attach them to some thing or somewhere else with cross walks seldom used such as the one coming out of Government Station Road to Daniells Bridge Road and another where the 441 Bypass comes together with the 441 Business route on the Athens side of Watkinsville.
  8. Stop light at the new YWCO location as well on Hog Mountain Road.
  9. Keep as much of south Oconee County rural and isolated as it wants to be.
  10. Pave Tappan Spur Road down to the River.
  11. Build a Bypass around Bishop. Build it where ever Nedra Johnson, Carolyn Pritchett, Johnny Pritchett, Joey Allen, Mr. Dekker, Charlie Brooks, Shana and Ashley Hood and Jeff Hannan want to have it.
  12. Put a helioport at either next to the Sherrif's office or on to of the new judicial and administrative center.
  13. Build a private airstrip in the most isolated part of the county specifically for the large aircraft that Ben Epps can't handle and name it the Bob Smith Airport and get him worrying about that instead of Hartsfield-Jackson in Athens.
  14. Rails to trails where ever the line Benny Anderson uses is abandoned between Watkinsville and Bishop. 
  15. Rebuild the Riverwalk that Dr. Russ Page worked on so hard for such a long time.
  16. Build high speed rail to Athens and Atlanta since no one else will. This will give Bogart the shot in the arm in has so long needed. 
  17. Bike trails, bike paths, off road mountain bike and horse trails in every nook and cranny in this county. 
  18. Brodrick family cross country path from Athens Academy to Colham Ferry to Oconee County to North Oconee to Westminster to Prince Avenue Christian to High Shoals schools. 
  19. After the Oconee County Courthouse become obsolete with the building of the new Judicial and Administrative Center, the entire "old" complex shall become retrofitted by Jimmy and Seth Addison Marbut to become the world's largest outdoor and indoor skate park.
  20. Rumble strips on all of Simonton Bridge.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. I live a far from perfect life myself but long ago and far away I learned how and when not to drink. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
