Qualifying for Walter's City Council seat last week of September

With the qualifying period now half over, no challengers have emerged (so far) for presumed Mayor Joe Walter, City Council member Brian Brodrick and newly appointed member (and Christian Lake subdivision resident) Henry Norman (who has yet to officially attend a meeting of the Watkinsville city council as a member but will do so in less than a fortnight Wednesday, September 14.)

The special qualifying period for Walter's seat he gave up to become Mayor will be during the last week of September, according to City Clerk Julie Sanders.

"Qualifying will be the end of September. An advertisement will be in the paper - probably next Thursday announcing qualifying," according to Julie.

James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
