Gainesville State College should become Watkinsville State...
....or University of Oconee, or otherwise sever ties with the Hall County campus as quickly as possible and offer as many four year degrees that the University of Georgia does not. Go for the specialty degrees like Hospital Management and other areas not currently offered in Athens. Expand the campus across the street if you must, but at least have a decent array of collegiate degrees. Dr. Penny Mills Dr. Margaret Venable (thanks Steve Smith) and the fine folks on Bishop Farms Parkway have done an outstanding job under constantly overcrowded circumstances, and they deserve their own branding and identity.
This would be another of my top priorities upon taking office at the House of Representatives for the 113th House District. I would also work together with the DOT and Oconee County to make sure the rear access to campus is done as seamlessly as possible, and I would work as a liaison between the City of Watkinsville and the DOT to make sure there is a transfer of property of the sixteen acres adjacent to Harris Shoals Park gets transferred to the municipality as quickly as possible.
With the impending closure of the J. Phil Campbell Sr. Natural Resources Center across Experiment Station Road thanks to President Obama and Paul Broun, we need someone who can replicate what happened with the Navy School and UGA. I am that person. Get out early and begin voting Wednesday for someone who cares about the 113th. The special election is Tuesday, June 21st. Advance voting ends Friday, June 17th.
Thirteen days of early voting in the 113th. Let's get out the vote and send a message to Atlanta.
