Congrats to Mackenzie Howe of Watkinsville for posting the fastest female time in this half-marathon. The story in the Banner-Herald originally had a mistake about the amount of money raised. According to director Jared Bailey "The event raised at least $50,000. We are not sure of the final figures yet becasue all of the invoices for services have not come in. We appreciate the coverage by the Athens Banner Herald but the amount cited in this article is incorrect.Thank you Athens for your support!"

James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
