The Chris Brown-Rihanna burger dedication dust up at Chops and Hops goes full on viral

So now I have been Facebook-accused by an alleged local comedian of extorting money from Chops and Hops because of their staff members' somewhat insensitive comment dedicating a ground prime rib sandwich to singers Chris Brown and Rihanna. I did suggest as a remedy to a ridiculous situation of their own doing making a donation to Team 6 of Athens Dancing with the Stars, and the restaurant management decided to make a sixfold increase and donation to this group that will ultimately go to Project Safe. I think most intelligent individuals involved are savvy enough to make the best out of a bad situation, but let's review some of the more salient points, shall we?

  • It is a whole lot easier to destroy a restaurant's reputation almost overnight than it is work hard for years building up confidence and trust with a neighborhood and city.
  • Leave tweeting, texting, and Facebook posts to those who have some sort of realistic idea of the potential ramifications of what they post and how they say it.
  • Never underestimate the power of social media in combating and reacting against poorly planned attempts at comedy coming at the expense of the restaurant's local and now national street credibility.
  • A sense of humor on the Internet is a really hard thing to gauge when it comes to the general public at large especially in matters of race, gender, sex and domestic violence. It is not as if Chops and Hops was being mistaken for the Punch Line or other comedy clubs.
  • Chops and Hops has earned an incredible amount of free publicity, mostly bad, but can they turn it around and make something positive of it? Is there a crisis PR management specialist at Jackson-Spalding? Did we not learn anything from the reaction against the Eastside 5 Star Day and their subsequent restaurant venture last year in some 180+ posts in a Flagpole column online?
  • Here are just some of the most recent international stories that largely copied one and other over the weekend from this restaurant's burger dedication.
