GA DEMS RELEASE JULY PRIMARY BALLOT QUESTIONS

Here are the questions you can expect on the Democratic ballot for the Primary.  Of course you know by now if you want any influence whatsoever in Oconee County, you must vote in the Republican primary to get your vote to make any impact. There are no candidates to choose from in the Primary on the Democratic side this time around. We need candidates people, step up.

Sincerely,
Dan Matthews

GA DEMS RELEASE JULY PRIMARY BALLOT QUESTIONS
Questions provide voters opportunity to shape Dem agenda

Atlanta, Ga. - May 25, 2012 - Georgia Democrats released today the questions that will be asked of voters who pull a Democratic ballot in the July primary election. The Georgia Democratic Party worked in partnership with the Democratic Senate and House Caucuses to develop the ballot questions.

"These statewide ballot questions are a great way to gauge the pulse of Democrats around Georgia. Several county parties will be placing their own questions about local issues on the ballot as well," said Mike Berlon, chairman of the Democratic Party of Georgia. "We're grateful for the strong leadership of Sen. Steve Henson and Rep. Stacey Abrams. With their help, it's a great time to be a Georgia Democrat."

The ballot questions on the Democratic Primary ballot will be:

1.     Should the Georgia Constitution be amended to allow the state to override locally-elected school boards' decisions when it comes to the creation of charter schools in your county or city?

2.     Do you support ending the current practice permitting unlimited gifts from lobbyists to state legislators?

3.     Should Georgia adopt an income tax credit for home energy costs to support the economic security of our families?

4.     Should Georgia reduce sales taxes on Made in Georgia products so as to support the growth of small businesses in our state?

Senate Democratic Caucus Leader Steve Henson said ballot questions are an important component of developing the Democratic agenda.

"Democrats need to voice their opinions on important issues. These ballot questions offer them an opportunity to shape ideas and issues that will we address in the future," Henson said. "But voters shouldn't stop here. We need them to be engaged with their elected officials throughout the year to provide input that will help us improve Georgia."

House Democratic Caucus Leader Stacey Abrams said listening to Georgians is key to governing.

"Democrats will use every means to listen to the voice of the people instead of dictating their beliefs," said Abrams. "We strongly encourage voters to ask their legislative candidates where they stand on these issues that matter to Georgia's families."

The qualifying period for candidates running in the Primary and General 2012 elections and ballot questions ended at noon today. Once certified, voters will be able to see their full ballot with candidates and questions. ###
