To all prior football participants,
The deadline to register for Football is only 8 days away.  Register by August 2nd to guarantee your child's spot on a team.  Some exciting changes to Football are listed below.

Free Recreation Football Combine

Come get ready for football at the 2013 Recreation Football Combine. Players should wear cleats, shorts
and a T-shirt, and bring a water bottle. Players will go through conditioning, agility, non-contact football
drills, and conclude with a friendly 7 on 7. Combine is open to all Oconee County Residents regardless of
where you play or if you play at all. The only requirement is to come on the day of your age group and sign a
waiver. Combine will run from 6:00pm to 7:30 pm.
Ages 7 & 8 - Monday July 29th Ages 9 & 10 - Tuesday July 30th Ages 11 & 12 - Thursday August 1st

Youth Tackle Football

Are you ready for some football? Join the best youth football league in the
area. Uniform and certified equipment provided. Players ages 7 - 12 learn
skills, fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a competitive recreation
league. Minimum playing time rules assure everyone has fun learning the game by playing in
the game. Preseason practices are held three days a week on  Monday, Tuesday and
Thursday evenings from 6 - 7:30 pm begin. Games begin Tuesday, September 4.
After games start, practices will be held twice a week with one game. Season
conducted  August 5 - October 26.

New This Year!
Juniors (9&10) and Seniors (11&12) will play teams from neighboring counties at least once during the
season. Additionally, the Oconee Bowl Champion will play for a Lake Oconee Area Football League title
(format to be determined)! Registration conducted through August 2 or until all spaces are filled. Fee: $140
Includes Helmet Shoulder Pads for loan and Pants and Jersey to keep.

League Age Evaluation
Pee Wee 7 - 8 Monday, August 5 at Oconee Veterans Park
A-K at 5:30 p.m. , L-Z at 6:30 p.m.
Juniors 9 - 10 Tuesday, August 6 at Oconee Veterans Park
A-K at 5:30 p.m. , L-Z at 6:30 p.m.
Seniors 11 - 12 Monday, August 5 at Oconee Veterans Park 7:30 p.m.
Age control date is May 31, 2013.
All evaluations are MANDATORY and are conducted at Oconee Veterans Park.
Equipment issued August 8, 9 and 10 at Herman C. Michael Park Gym. Teams will be assigned times.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
