Hello District 10 Democratic Leaders!
First of all, let's welcome Mr. Joe Burnett of Warren County, our newest county chair of the 10th District! He was elected just this past Saturday in Warrenton, along with a committee full of forward thinking Democrats. burnettjoseph@att.net
And welcome to Ms. Adrian Brown and Mr. Norman Garrett as new members of the State Committee from Walton County!
County Chairs, please let me know if your State Committee Member is not active or cannot attend the August 31 meeting.
For us 10th District folks, I'd like for us to gather together during the first vote counting. We will have a visit from Ken Dious of Athens, who is thinking about running as a Democrat for our US Congress seat.
SCM Meeting: Saturday August 31, check-in at noon, business starts at 1PM SHARP!
Venue: The historic Wadsworth Auditorium located at 25 Jefferson Street, Newnan, GA. It's the large building on the east side of Jefferson Street, if you take this link to Google Maps. Newnan is on the other side of Atlanta, 22 miles from the Perimeter down I-85.
County Chairs, please encourage your State Committee Member(s) to attend, and bring along some local Dems. Maybe the county party can help pay for their gas. Only SCMs will be able to vote, but there should be a lot of action to watch! Get there early and wander around Newnan and have some lunch.
The candidates for State Chair are: RJ Hadley, Dubose Porter, and Doug Stoner. I am backing RJ Hadley 100%.
If all goes as previous elections, this special election will proceed as follows:
1. SCMs will check in and receive special name tags and will probably sit in the front half of the auditorium. District 10, like the other 13 districts, will have a specially marked area for sitting.  Guests will probably sit in the rear of the auditorium.
2. Business will start at 1PM sharp.
3. Each candidate will have a nominating person to speak probably three minutes or so, AND a seconding person to speak, probably about two minutes. Then, the candidate will speak, maybe five minutes. So, with three candidates, we are looking at less than an hour.
4. Voting will be by SCMs only, and they must be in their assigned seats. In the first round, we will each vote for one of the three candidates. The votes will be counted, which can take an awfully long time, and then results will be announced. If one of the three does not get more than 50%, the candidate with the lowest number will be taken off the ballot, and we will go again for another round of voting.
So be prepared with snacks for your blood sugar, water for your delicate kidneys, a book to fight boredom during vote counting, your i-phone to communicate with the rest of the world, and maybe an Attends if you simply don't want to miss anything.
Holler at me with questions.
