Around our state, Georgians are gathering with loved ones in the spirit of fellowship and thanksgiving, fortifying their faith in family and community.
Yes, we are thankful. But as Georgia Democrats we also know that things could and should be better. Affordable health care, teachers forced to take furlough days or teaching in overcrowded classrooms, clean air and water, restoring HOPE to give all people a chance to be trained for something better and a mass transit system for solving gridlock are all issues where we offer better solutions. 
We pause to give thanks in 2013, but let's also lay the groundwork for what needs to be done for 2014.
As we join together this Thanksgiving Day, let us not forget the brave women and men in uniform who will spend this holiday thousands of miles away from their loved ones. Let us also remember those who are poor, unemployed, under-employed, or homeless who could use a helping hand. 
May you and your family have a healthy, safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
