I hope you are all staying safe and warm.  Here is the agenda for our next historical society meeting February 18 at Ashford on Main 7pm.  By then I figure you will all be anxious to get out so come by and help us plan.

a.     Ben report on Website. Bring computer to show site and assign content pages to members.
b.     Discussion about History on the Lawn, date and location. Fund Raiser
c.      Discussion on Tea Party, Touch a truck, Christmas Parade, Annual Alumni Association and Fall Festival. Assign member responsibilities and possible.
6.     New Business
a.     Melissa and Ben give overview of meeting with Melvin Davis.
b.     Melissa reports on BOC Splost meeting.
c.      Discussion on the Watkinsville Cemetery and N. Register nomination.
d.     Get approval for speaker Janine Duncan, Preservation Planner at UGA for March meeting. Approval for speakers at future meetings.

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. I live a far from perfect life myself but long ago and far away I learned how and when not to drink. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
