NEW YOUTH TACKLE FOOTBALL OPPORTUNITY
SAVE THE DATE!! **REGISTRATION** Sunday, May 4th, 2014 from 2pm to 5pm at Oconee Veterans Park Community Center
The unification of the Packers and the OCPRD has brought forth the new OCYFL (Oconee County Youth Football League). The OCYFL is endorsed by Coach Tuley (NOHS), Coach Noland (OCHS) and recognized as the feeder league to both Middle and High Schools in Oconee County.
· The OCYFL will participate in the NGYFA (North Georgia Youth Football Association - www.ngyfa.sidhelp.com ) Southern Conference versus competitive recreation Agency teams from Jefferson, Commerce, Winder-Barrow, Apalachee, Jackson Co., East Jackson, Madison Co. and Oglethorpe.
· Teams will be formed for ?Warriors? and ?Titans? in the following age groups: 7u, 8u, 9u, 10u, 11u and 7th grade.
· The age control date is August 1, 2014 (Your child's age on July 31, 2014).
· The High School district in which you live will determine your team. If there are two or more teams in an age group for a district (OCHS/NOHS), an evaluation and equalization draft will be conducted.
· All practices and home games will be held at OCPRD or OCS (Oconee County Schools) facilities.
· Games will be on Saturdays at the High Schools and practices will be on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Practices will be limited to 1hr 45min for two sessions (in pads) and 1hr for the third session (helmet only).
· The participation fee will be $140 (includes equipment and uniform) and you will register through the Oconee County Parks and Recreation Department.
I encourage anyone interested in becoming a Head Coach or Assistant Coach to stop by the OVP Community Center or email me (dtorok@oconee.ga.us ) for an Application. The application deadline is Friday, APRIL 18, 2014. All coaches are required to complete an application, a background check, the NYSCA Coach Certification class and the Heads UP concussion training session.
The OCYFL football camp will be held at NOHS this Summer. This camp will offer the opportunity for participants to have a ?padded? camp or our traditional ?flag? camp. Pads for the camp will be provided for those signing up in May for the OCYFL Tackle football program; any other equipment provided by the participant (helmet/shoulder pads) must be checked by Recreation staff to ensure it meets current NOCSAE helmet/shoulder pad standards.

Saturday, Oct. 25 1st playoff game
Saturday, Nov. 1 Quarterfinal playoff game
Saturday, Nov. 8 Semi-Final playoff game
Saturday, Nov. 15 NGYFA Super Bowl

Jeff Dantzler's arrests may be the best thing that ever happened to him

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. Any one who has listened to 960 the Ref AM sports talk radio or heard the UGA Lady Dawgs or men's baseball team has surely heard the encyclopedic knowledge of one Jeff Dantzler. Jeff and I are pretty much diametrically opposed poltically, but today he was arrested on four counts including DUI. I hope he gets the help he needs following his incarceration. I work for a lawyer who could help him out if he does not having someone already representing him. This man is a great broadcaster and I hope this arrest serves as a wake-up call for him and his rock and roll lifestyle. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

The booking photo is not to be placed on any web page that charges a fee for booking photo removal. Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
