Dam threatening to fail at Briar Lakes Court

Per Oconee County Fire Rescue and Oconee County Public Works, the dam in Briar Lakes is in danger of failing. This will cut off access to homes on Briar Lakes Court. Residents on Briar Lakes Court are encouraged to leave now or risk being trapped in their homes.

OCFR and deputies are attempting to make contact with residents at this time.

We do not think there is any danger to other areas from this.

There are no other areas with reported flood related problems at this time. If we become aware of any, we will send out Nixle alerts and post it on the Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

THis has next to nothing to do with Oconee County with the possible exception of the location of his former office, but a former colleague of mine on the radio got popped today for four counts. James Whipple of Bogart bonded out on child porn, pot, and possession of a firearm during commission of crime charges

Sheriff Scott Berry announces the arrest of Ian James Whipple (23) of Jefferson Avenue in Bogart on one count of Computer Pornography (child pornography), one count of Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Bond was set by the court at $50,000. Whipple has bonded out of jail. The arrest st ems from an investigation that began when the OCSO received information from the Athens Clarke County Police leading to the obtaining of a search warrant for Whipple's residence and computers. That warrant was executed on July 1st. Upon entering the residence, it was discovered that Whipple also was cultivating marijuana plants. Whipple was not at the residence at the time the warrant was executed. He was arrested on July 3rd when he was located by OCSO deputies.
