CCDC: Roast Save the Date

Mixing and mingling begins at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the festivities commencing at 7 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the UGA Tate Center. This event is not only the CCDC''s primary fundraiser to support the opening and operation of our 2012 Presidential-year headquarters, but also 5 percent of the net proceeds from this event will be donated to Doc's choice of cause:   the Clarke County Mentor Program . State Representative Doug McKillip watches proceedings at Seney Stoval Six Georgia Republican elected officials including State Representative Doug McKillip and State Senator Bill Cowsert both of Athens bravely lined up to hear the near constant berating from the best of the Northeast Georgia political people and elected officials from all sides of the political spectrum. My favorite was local Libertarian chair Doug Harmon who was easily the least represented. He just got up and said his piece and sat right back down. I missed Oconee County Board of Commissioners chair Melvin Davis' spiel, but basically the gist of what everybody said was "leave our districts alone!" State Senator Robert Brown, seated, watches Doc Eldridge at the lectern  There were plenty of other two minute or less speakers including myself, Jane Kidd, Doc Eldridge  and Keith Heard. Who the hell is Jackie Poteet?

She is an Augusta businesswoman running for the 10th district special election congressional seat . I salute and admire anyone who can pony up the candidate qualifying fees for this race. Lord knows I have tried to use the backdoor excuse to get on the planning commission and the Board of Education here a couple of times. Poteet's lack of familiarity with voters in Athens and Watkinsville illustrates how unknown a Dr. Paul Broun, Jr. or Doc Eldrige or Tom Chasteen or Willie Green are in Augusta and surrounding counties. This special election will be a case study in micro-campaigning in two relatively divergent media markets that have almost nothing to do with Atlanta. Perhaps the person who gets on infomercials the quickest will get a leg up on this race. Again I think Blake does a great job of pointing out the obvious anger Hudgens has honed in Athens with the redistricting debacle last year.
