Oconee's Huckaby opposes bill allowing guns at campuses, churches

Regents, 'Moms' oppose bill allowing guns at campuses, churches

Gainesville State College transforms to University of North Georgia

In a move expected to cost a significant sum for stationary and signage, Gainesville State College will now be known as the University of North Georgia and will presumably maintain a campus in the home county of Chancellor Hank Huckaby, and that is Oconee County.  Whether we will have military drills on Bishop Farms Parkway is a matter yet to be determined. The name change is a result of the merger with North Georgia College (headquartered in Dahlonega) and Gainesville State College (whose main campus is actually in Oakwood, just outside of Gainesville proper). The campus just outside the 441 By-Pass near Watkinsville is expected to remain crowded with students who cannot maintain a high enough GPA at UGA.

Hank Huckaby cost UGA Chester Brown

Regents' immigration policy at heart of Chester Brown issue | ajc.com So now it comes down that Board of Regents policy has adversely affected the University of Georgia recruiting of a 6 for 6 inch 345 pound Samoan athlete who so loved his scholarship offer that he tattooed it on his arm? Do you think this is going to help bring foreign students to Athens? What about the all time Georgia sack leader Richard Tarditz of France? What about offering a scholarship to North Oconee lineman Joseph Scelfo? Who is going to step up to the redneck policies of the Board of Regents? I am damn sure that Florida, Missouri, and Texas A&M would offer this Chester Brown a scholarship. Why are we not keeping the best lineman in the area in quite some time go un-recruited? Didn't his dad used to coach at UGA? We need answers, not scapegoats, but it is only the Democratic legislators who are trying to do anything about our stupid and xenophobic overreaction that is costing us every day at the ...

Immigration laws cost UGa an offensive lineman

Image
I would be willing to bet that most of the Republican legislators who voted for the restrictive immigration laws would have reconsidered how they voted if they knew it would cause the beloved University of Georgia an offensive lineman from Samoa. Oh well how about offer the same full ride to an all state lineman from North Oconee High School named Joseph Scelfo. I believe his father coached here. Lights out for the G.O.P.? Not by a long shot. Alan Alexander is on Tim Bryant's News Maker Tuesday show on 1340 WGAU

Mr. Alexander is an attorney from the Athens area well known to many folks. He is running against Chuck Williams for the 113th district in the special election for the State Legislature slot left open recently by Hank Huckaby's acceptance of the State Chancellor position with the Board of Regents. The radio show is on 9:06 am to 9:58 on AM 1340 WGAU on your dial or can be streamed live on the computer as well. Mr. Alexander did not make the final cut on the Oconee County Board of Education applicants for the Tom Breedlove resignation, and ran against Bob Argo for the Statehouse back in the day of 1981? The special come-one-come-all election in June 21, and the qualifying is next week.

Analysis: Georgia's rookie lawmakers need to pick a style carefully | jacksonville.com

Our Hank Huckaby gets cited as an exception and not the rule here. A friend said her senior daughter asked Huckaby a very specific question about teacher and state employee benefits getting slashed in a recent Q-and-A with students from North Oconee HS, and he artfully sidestepped the nuanced response. Oconee County Cycling Organization -- Legislative alert HB 180

Huckaby wins 113th nod without a run-off

Former University of Georgia fundraiser Hank Huckaby managed to escape a run-off with 51% of the vote in an expensive race in the 113th House of Representatives district G.O.P nomination. Huckaby defeated Tommy Malcom with 30% of the vote and tea party favorite Kirk Shook with 19%. Huckaby will run against Democratic candidate Suzy Compere for the seat in November.

Huckaby interview in Red and Black newspaper

68-year-old former UGA director of finance Hank Huckaby is emerging as the front runner for the Georgia House of Representatives 113th district race on the eve of the start of qualifying Monday. Here is an interview with the candidate in the student run newspaper at the University of Georgia.

Early predictions? Too close to call on GOP side for 113th

Image
If I were a betting man, or laying odds or percentages for the G.O.P. side with the rumored early entrants of the race for the Republican nomination to replace Bob Smith for the House 113th district, I would lay chalk equally on Kirk Shook (30%), former Oconee County Board of Education member Tommy Malcom (30%) and UGA fundraiser Hank Huckaby (30%) across the district with them scrambling over the undecided 10% to find out who will emerge as the front runner. Of course that would almost certainly mean a Republican run-off most likely between Malcom and Huckaby. I do not expect this to be an ugly race at all. Although if there are feats of strength or a civics test, then the North Oconee Offensive Line Coach and government teacher Shook is the instant favorite. Huckaby contributed to Paul Broun's race in 2008, which is a badge of honor for some and the kiss of death for others.
