Oconee Democratic Adopt-A-Mile clean up postponed to Monday

The snow and ice made finding the usual garbage along the Oconee Connector this Saturday very difficult at best, so the Oconee County Democratic Committee Adopt-A-Mile clean up of a mile stretch from the 316 interchange to about where the Golden Pantry is will take place Monday at 1:00 pm instead. The Clarke County Democratic Committee wanted me to let you know that they will be working at Clarke Middle School from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm that same MLK Jr. Day as well. It's a day on, not a day off, especially after almost a week off

Ambituous agenda for 1st N. High Shoals City Council meeting in a long time

The business of municipalities never stops, even with the titular head of the local government in absentia for nearly a year. The wheels have turned, the papers have been signed, and new people have assumed office and duties. So I am nearly giddy that the wonderful small town of North High Shoals will conduct some honest city council meeting activities on a Federal Holiday evening.  There are some amazing individuals at the confluence of Oconee, Walton and Morgan counties, and they deserve an equally accessible representation by their local peers. May the meeting run smoothly and as quick as the local residents will allow.   Here is the agenda for that meeting swiped from Steve Holzman's blog. I wonder who will make an appearance for Family Life Enrichment Center, as this is the business belonging to former Mayor Jeff Thomas. They may no...

MLK Day of Service Report to USAService.org

Oconee County resident Carl McGrath (kneeling) organized a clean up of an eye sore area in Greensboro, in Greene County, as a direct result of canvassing the neighborhood during the campaign for President Barack Obama. I wish I had participated and brought my son, but we are both a bit under the weather right now. Well, Felton Hudson and I have answered the call from Barack Obama to organize a service project on the MLK Holiday, Jan 19th. Since this is also the day before Inauguration, the activity can also serve to rally us together to begin our celebration of Barack Obama becoming President of the USA .   The service project will involve removing debris from a ravine in the Maple Circle Community in Greensboro.  To see a photo of the project si...
