Athens man charged with raping 12-year-old Oconee girl

Image
A 20-year-old Athens man charged Thursday with molesting a 12-year-old girl at her home in Oconee County had assault charges dropped against him in Athens for an alleged attack on a 13-year-old girl in 2013. Rivington Bradford Jr., is charged with aggravated sodomy, child molestation, false imprisonment and rape for Thursday morning’s attack on the girl in her home, located in a neighborhood off Epps Bridge Parkway, according to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. Bradford remained in jail Friday morning without bond. Bradford was arrested in July 2010 for assaulting a girl in Athens who told police he began sexually assaulting her, until her brother entered the room and attacked Bradford, police said. Bradford was charged with sexual battery in that incident, but a Clarke County grand jury declined to indict him on the charge. Regarding Thursday’s attack, Oconee County Chief Deputy Lee Weems said Bradford knew the family in whose home he was visiting. He is ...

Oconee County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a suspect Thursday afternoon for the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in a neighborhood off Epps Bridge Parkway, Sheriff Scott Berry said. Numerous units from the sheriff’s office converged on the area when the assault was reported, authorities said. Investigators are currently assisting the 12-year-old victim and Berry said that more information will be available later. The sheriff’s office released a report about 2:40 p.m. that it was looking for a shirtless man riding a blue bicycle last seen in the area of Walmart. Then about 3:30 p.m., deputies announced the man had been located. Authorities had not yet released the name of the suspect as of late Thursday. Nelson: Epps Bridge Parkway project might enhance regional lure || OnlineAthens.com

Outside of Home Depot at the other end of the road. Photo by Dan Matthews As I wrote in the comments of this article on the Athens Banner-Herald's website, I believe the project was tainted with the wetlands swap fiasco with Greene County. I do hope for success at the movie theaters, and I wonder how this quicky approaching road will change the landscape both economically and traffic wise in the Oconee-Clarke sector. The new Epps Bridge Parkway will be known for a lot more than the place where we hire day laborers outside of the Home Depot. Tuesday Night and $76 million Epps Bridge Centre rezone from Lee Becker

Enlightening item about imminent rezone of Epps Bridge Centre after the thumbs down from NEGRDC so if you want to ask the BOC about this vote, Tuesday is your time. Lee Becker pens a thoughtful piece encompassing many of impacts of this mammoth decision.$76 million is a lot to spend during these uncertain times, and we could certainly use the economic impact, but at what cost to our way of life and traffic. The impact of our own bridge to nowhere is a question of what we allow in this Epps Bridge corridor. Is smart growth out of the question? I wish the BOC would table this and listen to James Howard Kunstler 4:00 pm Oct. 21 at UGA. Dear Friends, The Oconee County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday night is scheduled to make a crucial rezone decision regarding the proposed $76 million Epps Bridge Centre. The rezone comes before the BOC with a negative finding from the North East Georgia Regional Development Center that "the development is not in the best interest of the Region and...

The Roadway to Epps Bridge Centre

The history and back story, not to mention the consequences of the "done deal" that is the new monstrosity called Epps Bridge Centre - thank to Lee Becker once again. Dear Friends, The scheduled hearing on Oct. 7 for the rezone request for the $76 million Epps Bridge Centre on Epps Bridge Parkway might seem almost to be an afterthought. The state–at the urging of the county–already has decided to build a $26 million roadway to the project. The county, in an effort to facilitate the project, has loaned the state $5 million for right of way purchase for the roadway. That's only part of the story. The county has passed a beer and wine ordinance, the federal government has granted a permit for mitigation of stream damage in Oconee by stream reparations in Greene County, and the local planning staff reviewed the project favorably despite a decidedly negative review by their regional counterparts. The reason Oconee County is so enthusiastic about the project is...
