Voter Registration

Image
We have just over one month to register as many Democrats as possible so they can vote for our local and state candidates and President Obama. How about we use this Democratic Convention week to inspire ourselves and our fellow Democrats to register to vote! Labor Day afternoon is a great time to go door to door in the county, not to mention, look for neighborhood BBQs. You might even be offered a bite! Onward and upward! Patsy

All is well on the campaign trail 2012 pre-qualifying GOP edition

Even though I am not running for office this time, it is very entertaining for me to be on the other side of the political process, i.e. getting asked by candidates to vote for them. Qualifying is this week at the Oconee County Board of Elections and Registration in Watkinsville. This morning the Oconee County Democratic Committee manned (and woman-ed) a table to register voters. We did not have signs indicating such but were successful in having a presence there to let people know that the Democratic Party is alive and well in Georgia, and we are registering new voters. Oconee County is unusually well registered as a county populace, where something like 90% of those eligible to register have already. So a large portion of the people we handed registration forms to today were people who needed to change an address because of moving back into the county or whatever. We do not attempt to proselytize, persuade or otherwise engage in blanket recruitment tactics. We just want to increa...

Voter Registration Event with Freedom Riders in Greene County... A SUCCESS!!!

Image
-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Today's VR Event in Greene Co... A SUCCESS!!! Date: Sat, 27 Sep 2008 18:07:47 -0700 (PDT) From: Hi, All.   We had an amazing day with voter registration in Greene Co. today.  The amazement was not only that 50+ volunteers registered 135 new voters.  It was also in the make-up of the teams we had working in the predominately black neighborhoods and businesses in Greene County.  In most instances, the teams were biracial teams united in the common cause of getting a biracial candidate elected President of the USA.  Another piece of the amazement was Eris Gaul who was registering folks at the Galaxy grocery store in Union Point.  By lunch-time, Eris had already registered 15 people and was out of forms.  As of this writing, I don't know what her total was for the day, but I think she probably g...

Voter Registration at Eagle Tavern on tne 4th of July - Oconee updates of interest

Image
Pat Priest does an amazing job organizing a wide array of events in both Athens and Watkinsville. If there is a volunteer of the year award, she deserves it. Please try to attend as many events as you can on our nation's birthday and be thankful we live in such a great country and county.  The big news here is actual voter registration at Eagle Tavern and Bell's going on, which is the only way to perpetuate real change and coalition building beyond the forthcoming primary. The next PS My current grammatical pet peeve of the moment are the people who insist on needlessly adding an apostrophe in the word veterans as far as the new park name is concerned. If the park belonged to one Veteran and we wanted to talk about his park, we could reference a "Veteran's Park" but anything short of that should never have an apostrophe in this circumstance.  Veterans are Veterans and I am glad some candidates took the political opportunity to further expoit them in a conven...
