Tony Howard, Elmer Buddy Christian honored as employees of the quarter by A/CC Police

  Today's Topic Summary EMPLOYEES OF THE QUARTER HONORED   Chief Joseph H. Lumpkin, Sr., announces the Police Department's employees of the first quarter (January-February-March) 2011 who were recently honored with a reception at police headquarters. Two sworn employees were honored. While growing up in Athens, SPO Tony Howard knew from a young age he wanted to help people. Later on, he made the decision to join law enforcement in the community he loved. His desires led him to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department where he became a model for Community Oriented Policing. His love for his fellow officers inspired him to join the Honor Guard, a unit dedicated to paying homage to our fallen brethren as well as other formal duties. On March 22, 2011, he was feloniously assaulted while trying to apprehend a fleeing fugitive.
