Construction begins in earnest on flood abatement for 1st Christian Church

Image
Just a word of warning to those who might be driving downtown to vote or anything on Simonton Bridge Road west toward downtown in Watkinsville. Work has begun near the First Christian Church to stop the flooding that may or may not be caused by the large Town Center shopping mall across Simonton Bridge. There was one block cordoned off while curbs were being finished this extremely busy Special Election St. Patrick's Day Tuesday on a warm and lovely afternoon.  Might be a good day to walk to the polls? afternoon. The final westbound block (between First and Main Streets in downtown Watkinsville) of Simonton Bridge Road in under construction and blocked for construction of new curbing to attempt to abate the near constant flooding at the church on Main Street. Floodings of First Christian Church complaint co-opts otherwise brief Watkinsville City meeting

Image
Despite a full house and agenda, the brief July meeting of the Watkinsville City Council was considerably dampened by the declaration of the 70 year old Trustee Roy "Doc" Crawford of the Watkinsville First Christian Church going off on the three City Council members present and Mayor Charles Ivie about the storm water run off ostensibly caused by the Town Center development and the lack of water run off planning by this and the former municipal administration of Joe Walter. He pointed toward the impervious asphalt surface run off of the neighboiring Town Center development and the lack of proper sewage engineering as the reasons why his place of worship was threatened with wate...

Happy Birthday, USA!   If the US is anything like my sister it will declare July it's birthday month and anticipate a steady shower of daily gifts.     Luckily for us, that is not the case.  I mean, what do you get a nation that's still in it's teenage years that it will fully appreciate?  She may be a teenager in nation years, but she is also, for most of us, our mother land - so do you go for a mother-y gift, like a hand made macaroni necklace? Or something more age appropriate, li...
