Motivation for running for office

I am running for the Georgia House District 113th because I want to make this state a better place for my son. I want to make Highway 316 safe with T-SPLOST funds and not with tolls. I want to save the HOPE Scholarship for our students and have an income cap for eligibility requirements. I want to tighten tax loopholes on mega-corporations and end sweetheart deals for legislators. We need more transparent and ethical government business and no more good old boy back room dealings with public officials making money from the government land deals at inflated prices. It is time to restore honor and integrity with our elected officials. Please vote for Dan Matthews for House 113 Special Election Run Off either early this week 8-5 Monday through Friday at your county Board of Election office usually near your Courthouse or at the usual polling place Tuesday, July 19. I love driving to Bostwick and Crawford, to North High Shoals and Apalachee, to Bogart and Winterville. This is an amazing ...

Oconee County and the rest of Georgia has a run-off election as well

So much attention has been given on this blog and elsewhere to the Athens-Clarke County mayoral and District 5 Commissioners run off election that the judicial run offs have been largely ignored. Oconee County and the rest of the State of Georgia has a Supreme Court and Court of Appeals run off election to vote on as well. Only a few hours remain in the advance voting, and although I realize my endorsement is essentially a kiss of death, I support Tami Adkins over David Nahmias for State Supreme Court and Toni Davis over Chris McFadden for the Court of Appeals. Here is a link for our Oconee County sample ballot. You will have to vote at your usual polling place Tuesday if you do not make it to the advance voting sites before 5 pm today. Here are links for the various candidates: Justice David Nahmias, Ga Supreme Court www.justicenahmias.com Tammy Adkins, candidate, Ga. Supreme Court www.adkins4justice.com   Chris McFadden, candidate, Ga. Court of Appeals www.mcfaddenforappe...

Woven brightly, Daniel J. Matthews, Jr. Date: Mon, 1 Dec 2008 13:01:55 -0500 To: danmatt@hotmail.com From: georgia@barackobama.com Subject: Vote for Jim Martin tomorrow Obama '08 Dan -- You have one more opportunity to vote for change in Georgia -- vote for Jim Martin in tomorrow's special election. Turnout for the Georgia Senate runoff is expected to be much lower than in last month's general election, so we have to make sure every Georgian ready for change stands up and makes their voice heard. Especially you. Your polling place may be different than in the general election, so look up your current polling place on the Georgia Secretary of State's website now. In a runoff election like this one, it doesn't matter what the pundits and the pollsters say -- all that matters is who shows up at the polls. The energy and enthusiasm we've seen throughout this election have proven that Georgians are ready for change. Now we just need to make ...
