Sons of Confederate Veterans The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) is a 501(c)(3) non-political heritage organization formed in Richmond, VA. in 1896. It is not affiliated with any other organization. With more than 30,000 members, its aims are patriotic and educational. Membership is open to both lineal and collateral descendants of those who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. The SCV has ongoing programs, meetings and activities at the national, state (division) , and local (camp) levels. Preservation work, marking Confederate soldiers' graves, historical reenactments, and regular meetings are activities sponsored by local camps. The SCV strives to see that history is presented accurately and to defend the good name of the Confederate soldier.
