It's to promote our petition,  Blue for Barack , which we hope will inspire tens of thousands of signatures from Georgians that are eager to vote for the President.  Please sign the petition. Georgia votes to destroy Medicare?

Image
Please consider this solicitation Woven brightly,  Daniel J. Matthews, Jr. Date: Mon, 18 Apr 2011 16:38:55 -0400 From: info@georgiademocrat.org To: danmatt@hotmail.com Subject: Georgia votes to destroy Medicare? Georgia's Republican congressmen took a reckless step. They voted to phase out Medicare. The centerpiece of their destructive plan is to replace Medicare with an insurance voucher that loses its value over time. Since the voucher doesn't keep up with the cost of health care, the vouchers will eventually become pointless. Every Republican Congressman in Georgia voted YES for this plan. The non-partisan CBO weighed in, and discovered that health care expenditures for a typic...

State Committee election

Vickie Moody has expressed interest in continuing as our State Committee member, but she has encouraged anyone else who is interested to also run for the position whose qualifications are to be a resident of and registered to vote in Oconee County.  The election for State Committee member will be held at the next Democratic Committee meeting on February 17 at 7:30 pm at Jittery Joes in Watkinsville.

If I had a Democratic ballot in the Georgia Primary....

I would vote for Mike Thurmond for US Senate, Dubose Porter for Governor (Roy Barnes is going to win without a run-off), Carol Porter for Lieutenant Governor, Michael Mills For Secretary of State, Rob Teilhet for Attorney General, Brian Westlake for State School Superintendent and Holly Ward for the 114th. I do not know about the Commissioner of Labor race between Terry Coleman and Darryl Hicks yet.

Stop cuts to higher education in Georgia

Image
Dear Voter, As you may know, Republican lawmakers in Georgia are targeting higher education in an attempt to hide their fiscally irresponsible ways. You can read more about these violent cuts to our state colleges and universities at the Macon Telegraph , Georgia Public Broadcasting , the Rome-News Tribune , and the Gainesville Times . Proposed changes include: Over 4,000 lost jobs for college faculty and staff. Termination of college majors, even as students are currently enrolled. 50% of county extension agencies closed. Closing the State Botanical Gardens and the student radio station at UGA, reduce GA Tech library hours by 42%, close GA State library on weekends. Removal of 5 undergraduate programs at the Medical College of Georgia. Elimination of 4-H programs statewide. Closing some satellite campuses; rejection letters for previously accepted new students. State Senator Seth Harp even suggested that a 77% tuition increase, effective this calendar ...

Many projects, recruitment ideas await Oconee County Democrats

The Oconee County Democratic Committee met and welcomed new member Herman Smith this wet evening at the Governmental Annex on Highway 15.  It was not as packed as our last meeting, but the talk of the turnout was lively and well informed through out the evening. The fact it was going on opposite of the Jeannette Rankin Dinner with Melissa Fay Greene was noticed as well. Republican Sheriff Scott Berry will be leading our "very popular" (according to vice Chair Ann Stoneburner) Saturday Stroll from the Courthouse to the Jail and perhaps the E-911 Center - rumor has it that Sheriff Berry will be toting folks down to the jail in the paddy wagon, and committee members were anxious to get help for stroll organizer Pat Priest Saturday morning. Stoneburner and her husband Dr. Robert Wyatt have been on every stroll but both have to be out of town this weekend. Any help anyone can present on the tour would be welcome. Having been on Berry's tour, I can highly recommend in a non...
