Flagpole and marker dedication for Sons and Daughters of Confederate Veterans at Watkinsville Cemetary Sunday, April 22, 2012

Regardless of your views of the Civil War, we should all be interested in history From: "psommer" psommer@bellsouth.net Date: April 7, 2012 9:26:02 PM EDT To: "'psommer'" psommer@bellsouth.net Since we are interested in the Watkinsville Cemetery and local history, I thought I'd pass this invitation on to you. The T. R. R. Cobb Camp #97 Sons of Confederate Veterans and The Laura Rutherford Chapter #88  United Daughters of the Confederacy request the honor of your presence on April 22, 2012 at Confederate Memorial Day Observances in Historic Watkinsville , Georgia . A flagpole and marker dedication to all Oconee Confederate Soldiers will begin at 2:00 p. m. in the Watkinsville Cemetery . A memorial dedication for two civilians who died in a Union prison will begin at 3:15 p.m. in front of Eagle Tavern.  A reception for all to enjoy will be held after the second ceremony.

Rose Creek Stewardship CLEAN UP!

Image
Subject: Rose Creek Stewardship CLEAN UP! Hi Friends! Here is your friendly reminder about our Rose Creek Stewardship Roadside (and creek) litter clean up as a part of Keep Oconee Clean and Beautiful Commissions GREAT OCONEE CLEAN UP!   Click on that link to see the story I wrote for Patch, and why Melvin Davis wants us to step up our efforts for this event.  It's an interesting story! The event takes place all over Oconee County on April 21st, but because I will be involved in those efforts on that day, I have scheduled our ROSE CREEK STEWARDSHIP clean up the Sunday before, on April 15. I HOPE YOU WILL PARTICIPATE IN BOTH EVENTS, but at the very least, let's get our area litter free! I am hoping that you will meet me at The Covered Bridge at 2:00 on Sunday April 15 and we can sort out the rest of the details from there. I will have safety vests, bags, gloves (I think) and pick up sticks, and also orange cones to help keep us safe in our efforts...

Oconee Democrats April book: "Black Like Me"

Please consider participating in the Oconee Democrats book group - this month is "Black Like Me" which just turned 50. Sincerely,  Dan Matthews To: oconee@yahoogroups.com From: Date: Sat, 7 Apr 2012 14:41:28 -0400 Subject: [oconee] April book: "Black Like Me"   Hi! Hope you're out enjoying this lovely day -- if you're lucky, without neighbors' raucous power tools drowning out the peace and quiet. I'm writing to suggest that you join us! The community book group sponsored by the Oconee Democrats will discuss the classic "Black Like Me" by John Howard Griffin on April 25th. The book should be especially interesting to talk about in light of the recent, tragic death of Trayvon Martin. The group meets the last Wednesday of every month at Piccolo's, a pleasant restaurant in the Bell's shopping center in Watkinsville. The discussion gets underway at 7, with some of us arriving at 6:30...
