We've had a lot of rain lately, and no end in sight, but hopefully if there is a shower, it will be short and cool things off for us. . Another friendly reminder that the Oconee Democrats will meet next Saturday, Aug. 6., at 8:00 a.m. at the Oconee Connector fire station (next to the new QT) to clean up our adopted mile of road.  This project is part of the national observance of President Obama's birthday and we will be joining Democrats around the state and country in community service projects. See you then. Sarajane Love P.S. Don't forget to bring a pair of work gloves. __._,_.___   __,_._,___

Successful clean up for Oconee Connector on MLK Jr. Day

Image
A half dozen hearty souls bared rain and the remnants of snow to pick up a gazillion cigarette butts and assorted debris along side the Oconee Connector essentially between the Golden Pantry and the Quick Trip. This clean up was rescheduled from Saturday because of the snow on the side of the road. Not all had melted by Monday. Melissa Steele, Pat Priest, Sara Jane Love, Dan Matthews, and Robert Wyatt Many thanks to the volunteers including Mary Mellein, Sara Jane Love, Pat Priest, Melissa Steele, Ann Stoneburner, Dr. Robert Wyatt and Dan Matthews for coming out on a soggy holiday. The group met at the Barber Creek Fire Station and divided up and picked up trash on both sides of the road, one group heading toward the busy Highway 316 and the other past the Quick Trip and the Golden Pantry. The smart and experienced people brought bags and clean up tools to pick up the trash near the side of the roads. The oncoming traffic kept the volunteers dodging vehicles to grab the wrappers...

Oconee Democratic Adopt-A-Mile clean up postponed to Monday

The snow and ice made finding the usual garbage along the Oconee Connector this Saturday very difficult at best, so the Oconee County Democratic Committee Adopt-A-Mile clean up of a mile stretch from the 316 interchange to about where the Golden Pantry is will take place Monday at 1:00 pm instead. The Clarke County Democratic Committee wanted me to let you know that they will be working at Clarke Middle School from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm that same MLK Jr. Day as well. It's a day on, not a day off, especially after almost a week off

Krimson Kafe has broken pipe

It shall be an extra challenge for those wanting to help the Oconee County Democratic Committee pick up garbage along our adopt-a-mile area on the Oconee Connector at noon. Krimson has a broken pipe at the cafe and hopes to open at 11 AM tomorrow.   If anyone wishes to have lunch before the clean-up, they will be able to eat tomorrow . I will keep you posted on the developments about her business. Rita

Oconee Democrats Adopt-a-mile 10:30 am Saturday, Nov. 7 on Oconee Connection

Reminder: The Oconee Democrats will clean up our adopted roadside this Sat., Nov. 7, 2009. Meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Barber Creek Fire Station. Bring work gloves and any empty aluminum cans that you want to put in the firefighters' collection bin. We have had a long string of Saturday activities, with the Strolls and the Yard Sale. This one doesn't take too long if we have enough bodies, and it really improves the appearance of one of our major roads. So suck it up and come out one more Saturday, hope the weather cooperates, and you can enjoy the rest of your fall weekends! Thanks! Sarajane
