Spark Park basketball courts pass muster at Herman C. Michael Park

Image
13 year old Athens Academy phenom Lowell Matthews checks out the very few scuff marks on the new solid plexiglass backboards of the outdoors Sprite Spark Park funded basketball courts at Herman C. Michael Park in Oconee County, Georgia (Photograph by Daniel J. Matthews - fully licensed and copyrighted photograph may not reproduced without permission or at least proper accreditation and some advanced mutually agreed to compensation). The new outdoor basketball courts at Herman C. Michael Park are ready for some serious sweaty competition whether between father and son or four buddies not wanting to wait for the indoor courts to come open. I like the padded goal stand and even tugged a few of the velcro straps together, and the stone benches add a nice touch. The plexiglass backboards do not wobble in the least, nor do they have that patented "THONG" sound that so many of us used to playing on school yard courts recall from launching bricks landing on the standard metal p...

Select Football League Tryout Date Change

Changing the dates and registration times at the last second (relatively speaking) is not the best way to start a Select Football team, but I understand the necessity with the conflict with the Little League tournament. We were first in line to get equipment Friday evening at Herman C. Michael Park.  I hope Trevor and the gang have state championship level teams, and I do wish the OCYFL team would merge for this team if nothing else. Fill out this poll and help us prepare for the worst locally

Please help out with this survey to help the county try to plan better for emergency services. We have been blessed to escape most disasters and conflagration in Oconee County, but surely someday something horrible this way will come, and best we be prepare for the unknown adversary as well as we can. Tornadoes, floods, or plane crashes would be the most likely kind of horrific event to occur here in my unprofessional estimation.
