Dear Youth Soccer Parents:
OCPRD and the Oconee Futbol Club are announcing a partnership to form the Oconee Soccer Alliance (OSA).  OCPRD and OFC have previously coordinated for field rentals and tournament hosting but will broaden the scope of the partnership by the formation of OSA that is designed to consolidate quality Recreation, Academy, Classic and Athena play in the community.  Building on the strength of one of the largest youth soccer recreational programs outside of metro Atlanta and an established and successful Select club program, OSA will look to enhance coach training and individual player development by offering coach training clinics, player camps and individual clinics for recreation and Select level players and teams.  Traditional recreation leagues will continue to be offered to provide players from age 4-18 the opportunity to participate in an organized fashion with a focus of learning new skills, meeting new friends and having fun.  Recreation players will have the opportunity for advanced individual development while continuing to participate in recreation leagues through participation in OSA's Recreation Advanced Development (RAD) program coordinated to compliment recreation practice and game play.  RAD players will receive technical, performance, and goalkeeper training from advanced instructors in a group environment.

Parents and players looking for a more competitive play without a significant travel commitment can participate in the OSA Academy.  The OSA Academy program operates as a member of Georgia Youth Soccer Association's select developmental program for boys' and girls' in age groups U-10 through U-12.  The idea behind Academy is to provide young players advanced coaching and a higher level of competition to those ready for elevated training and commitment in a fun soccer environment.  The Academy philosophy is playing to learn while minimizing the pressure of playing to win.  In continuing OSA's emphasis on individual skill development, Academy players have access to technical, performance and goalkeeper training along with training sessions in a game like environment.

Traditional Select Classic (boys) and Athena (girls) soccer is competitive soccer for players ages 12-18, who are ready for a serious commitment to soccer in effort and time and are aspiring to play soccer at the highest level in high school and beyond. Players are selected for teams based on a ?tryout?. OSA enters its Select teams into Georgia Soccer leagues at either the Athena or Classic level. Teams will train twice a week. Tournament play is an important part of the season at this level. Increased emphasis is given to the tactical and mental aspects of competition. Players are expected to learn to play skillfully in multiple positions and formations. Individual skill development remains important; Athena and Classic players have access to technical, performance, and goalkeeper training in addition to team training sessions.

With the partnership OSA plans to expand all Athena and Classic team offerings in Oconee County with a targeted focus on organizing more Athena teams.  Academy, Classic and Athena Select Soccer tryout dates are the last week of May and the first week of June.  Please refer to our Summer Brochure for detailed information.  There is no fee required to tryout and parents can register online for advanced tryout registration at http://www.oconeecounty.com/ and follow the links to the parks and recreation department or register onsite prior to the tryout. Online tryout registration will be available April 16.

OCPRD will process all registrations for recreation and Select programs through its online and onsite registration process.
