The worst coach in the world

That is how I felt after a season full of frustration came to a head this evening in the first round of the Oconee Parks and Recreation Department u12 soccer season.  Our winless team lost yet again in the post-season tourney 4-2 after playing a great first half. I blew a gasket late in the second half when we were still down by one goal and the other team had an out of bounds ball directly in front of our bench. The other team had two players who I would say were worthy of traveling team status, while we maybe had three who occasionally did. I give the other team all the credit in the world. The other team took its sweet time deciding who was going to pass the ball in and player "A" took the ball over his head to throw it in and actually pumped like he was going to throw it in, then their coach decided another player was to throw it in instead, and the first player tossed the ball into the field of play to the second player, underhanded, but a violation none the less. The dynamics of the first husband-wife ticket in Georgia politics and Pete's opposing (?) Flagpole viewpoint

The AJC's excellent writer Jim Galloway's take on the Carol Porter and DuBose Porter political ticket for Georgia. Good quotes and links giving the Michael Thurmond and Casey Cagle positions as well. Pete McCommons of Flagpole seems to like that Mike has announced to him (and seemingly no one else) for Lt. Governor. Moore's Ford Memorial Committee getting government approval and involvement

Son of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson's Secretary of State Dean Rusk, Rich Rusk just sent this letter collection of articles from the Walton Tribune newspaper: Dear Moore's Ford friends, In an April 5, page one story, the Walton Tribune published news that a letter from Walton County Board of Commissioners Chairman Kevin Little has "called for justice in the Moore's Ford lynching." "The proclamation is believed to be the first such action for any governing body in the county," wrote the Tribune. Managing Editor Brian Arrington also wrote a column calling upon other Walton County leaders to step up, and thanking Mr. Little for having done so. Both stories are attached below. This action came one week after our March 28 film screening/public forum in Monroe. Remember the name of our event? "When justice rolls down..." Folks, I am thinking of the hundreds of phone calls and emails over the years, personal visits and pleas, urging ...

Oconee County Democratic Committee member Dr. Patricia Priest has worked hard on this event and has also continued work with the book club. Woven brightly, Daniel J. It's a great, uplifting book. You can pick it up at Books Galore in Watkinsville -- with a 25% discount. As always, newcomers are welcome. I'm also writing to let people know that tickets are now on sale for "Dancing with Athens Stars" -- the very fun March 1st show at the Classic Center that will benefit Project Safe. Oconee's own Courtney Gale (working with Ron Putman, who t...

Michael Thurmond addresses Oconee County Democratic Committee meeting

State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond of Athens spoke at our May meeting of the Oconee County Democratic Committee. He said he is taking a look at running for Lieutenant Governor. We had such a big crowd that we had to move the meeting across the hall to the Board of Commissioners' chambers.
