Update on some soccer field news and views

Last week I raved about the condition of the Westminster Christian School soccer fields, but this week I have to offer a little even handed criticism, and absolutely none of it is directed toward Oconee Futbol Club. The condition of the fields are fine, but it is the elements around the fields that need to be improved drastically. I understand the need for constant up-keep and revision, but the state of disrepair this weekend was highly unacceptable. The three soccer games going on were unimpeded by the general state of trash and disorganization. Just a quick clean up would take care of the large part of the trashy look around the fields. There were big piles of grass seed bags and other signs of neglect that a few bales of hay might do well to disguise. The trash around the stream is very unsightly. There are garbage cans which could very well be strategically placed around the grounds but instead are gathered in a hideous group near the aforementioned stream. With people coming...

Ponderings on the first five Democrats running in the 10th.

The five announced Democratic candidates for the 10th District US Congress special election in Georgia for Dr. Charlie Norwood's seat appeared before a packed house in the fourth floor of the Athens - Clarke County courthouse Thursday evening. People came from Oconee, Habersham, Madison and other counties as well. Denise Freeman found a new friend in me. This lady is incredibly impressive. She needs to visit white churches as much as possible between now and June 19th. She might surprise more than a few people. She has the most votes against Norwood in a previous election 2000. She lives in Lincolnton and knows the district well. She is a Baptist minister. She could be our Heath Shuler but more likely our Barack Obama. She resonates positive energy although she might be a little fuzzy on the wonky details of how she might tweak Charlie Norwood's now languishing patient bill of rights, at least according to Tim Bryant's talk show this morning on Newstalk 1340 WGAU AM Jim Ma...
