Marbut moves Sunshine from Washington to Baxter and celebrate with BMX big air demonstration

 Watkinsville resident Jimmy Marbut moved his Athens anchor store of Sunshine Bicycles from West Washington Street to a new location on Baxter Street with a celebration of the opening featuring the talents of the Freestyle Connection BMX Stunt team grabbing big air for a good crowd encouraged well by emcee Jon Dowker. He introduced every rider from ages 13 to 41, coming from Colorado to Commerce and all points in between.

Jimmy Marbut, owner of Sunshine Cycles in Watkinsville and Athens, received approval to finish his garage and build some backyard recreation area for his kids from the Watkinsville City Council after some questions by the Mayor Joe Walter and Brian Brodrick and clarification of city attorney Joe Reitman. Council members Toby Smith and Samantha Purcell are shown above voting in favor of the building permit for the Jeremy Drive home in Morgan Manor Estates subdivision in Watkinsville.

OCCO annual meeting and signage efforts

The person on Oconee County Land Use and Transportation Committee who somehow suggested the Bike Athens has infiltrated this organization is an embittered, angry old man and now an ex member of the citizens committee. The people on this new Oconee County Cycling Organization run - or pedal -  the gamut from extremely conservative to rather progressive and represent a good cross section of Oconee County bicyclists. My thanks to all who attended.  It was a great meeting!  Around 25 people were able to attend, which is a great turnout considering this was our first official member meeting.
