About time this bum gets his due. My problems with him were more political than personal, but he never gave me that honest feeling in any of his many endeavors. I can fondly recall various public pissing matches in the Editorial pages of various newspapers, where basically I was condemning the current administration as a corrupt failure and this felon and his minions immediately branded me with every ill ever concocted by anyone having anything whatsoever to do with Democratic party. I also have aestheic and governmental concerns about the whole process and design of the Veterans' memorial, and the fact that next to no Democrats are involved in the current planning process. I also shudder at the entire politicization of the process of quasi-governmental approved edifices for man's inhumanity against man. e: Proposed rezone along Barnett Shoals Road This is to update you on the status of the proposal to build 238 houses on 264 acres on Old Barnett Shoals Road adjacent to Green Hills Country Club (now called Creekside Country Club). The proposal includes 30,000 sq ft lots on septic tanks in an environmentally and historically sensitive area. Just when we think these developments can't get any worse comes this one. Consider, a project so bad: 1. The Northeast Development Center determined the project is not in the best interests of the state. 2.The Planning Commission recommended the Board of Commissioners deny it. 3. So bad that 2 developers spoke against it at the Planning Commission hearing. The proposal was to go to the Board of Commissioners at its next regularly scheduled meeting but the developer asked that it be tabled until the February meeting. Not even the most ardent local historians or archeologists have heard of the Rutherford community near where what was Green Acres Country Club and where it recently stood. Now there is a plan afoot to bring in a massive new county club development with $350,000 houses on 3/4 acre lots. The closest subdivisions I am aware of in Clarke County have five acre minimums. UGA art professor Bill Paul is heading up a community effort to block the Marshall development destined to destroy the scenic gateway along Barnett Shoals into Oconee County. This area has large lots and many acres of undisturbed beauty in an area untouched by subdivisions (so far) and also any substantial surveys of historical impact on cemetaries and ruins of the mill culture. Evening everyone, I'm passing along some words of thanks from Russ Page. See his message below. As you likely already know, the BOC voted to approve the two rezone requests by Plum Creek. This now makes ~1300 acres and ~250 homes that the commission has approved for AR-5 along US441 south of Heritage Park. As Russ points out, there is a silver lining to this dark cloud. For the first time we have some definite movement toward a river walk. For the record, Commissioners Horton and Hale voted to deny both rezones, while Commissioners Luke and Norris voted to approve. Chairman Davis broke the tie vote in favor of the rezones. The dynamics of the commission voting last Tuesday (November 7th) indicates how the majority of the BOC coninues to emphasize illogical and inappropriate development to the detriment of the county. Watkinsville approves first pouring licenses | | Story updated at 10:41 PM on Monday, November 13, 2006 The Watkinsville City Council approved provisional beer and wine pouring licenses to Ann Miller-Anderson, owner of Maison Bleu, Jose Zambrano, owner of Girasoles, and Kenneth Gautreau, owner of Gautreau's Cajun Cafe, at its regularly scheduled meeting last week. The pouring licenses are the first three to be approved since the council passed an ordinance allowing the issuance of beer and wine pouring licenses in August. The provisional licenses granted to Miller-Anderson, Zambrano and Gautreau will allow them to serve beer and wine at their restaurants starting Jan. 1. All three restaurants are located on Main Street in Watkinsville.
