Hello Dan, You've been there with me and one of my closest friends Max Cleland, so you know how critical it is that Jim Martin defeat Saxby Chambliss in next week's runoff. So let's skip right to the chase. The day after America elected Barack Obama President, I called my team together and asked them to keep working for a few more weeks - in Georgia. I asked them to go help Jim Martin because I'll never forget what Saxby did to my brother Max - and now my boots on the ground  could sure use your help. Our records indicate that you live in Georgia, but even if you've moved, you can still help phone-banking and getting out the vote. Just contact Ioanna Kefala at ikefala@johnkerry.com and let her kn...

Has Saxby Chambliss ran one ad touting what he will do?

It is easy to kick back and criticize the other guy for almost every crime against humanity, but I wish the campaign advertising ~ especially in this Georgia U.S. Senate Run Off ~ would concentrate on what the positive things their candidate would accomplish instead of smearing mud and lies about the other guy. But there is no question which campaign kicked ass in portraying their opponent worst and that would be Senator Saxby Chamblisss. It will be interesting to see if fear once again motivates voters better than hope. Already the right is making a hero out of two-time Saxby Run Off seasoned campaign manager because of Sarah Palin is coming to Georgia. The biggest thing close to a real scandal to plague Saxby would be his five deferments and his son lobbying for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (when not coaching his kids to cheer for their Big Daddy). Saturday Night Live could not write this better but Lord knows they did about a week ago. This is a little more effective, however.

Brief business meeting Dec. 4 at 6:30 pm prior to Christmas Party at Becky Vaughn's house in Jennings Mill in Bogart

Image
For those of you coming to the annual Oconee County Democratic Committee Christmas Holiday meeting, you can come at 7 pm if you do not want to hear the votes and business discussions in the early part (6:30 pm) of the meeting on Meriweather Drive in Bogart. I would strongly suggest taking Jimmy Daniel Road to the back end of the Jennings Mill Golf and Country Club. Coming from State Highway 316 toward Bogart and away from Watkinsville, you would take a right on Meriweather Drive and it is the second or third house on the right. Will it be Saxby or Jim Martin's last stand?

The negative advertising barrage by Saxby Chambliss and those who support him could come back to bite him on the ass, but as of right now, Sunday, I have to go with a 51-49 edge for the incumbent, as much as I might want challenger to emerge victorious. I will also predict a Jim Powell and Sara Doyle victory

ELECT JIM MARTIN from People for the American Way

People For the American Way VIEW WEB PAGE   |  TELL A FRIEND   |  SUBSCRIBE Dear Dan, This is HUGE. If you and other Georgia progressives can spread the word and get out the vote for Jim Martin this Tuesday, it could mean erasing one of the biggest barriers to change for President-elect Obama and the Democratic majority: the Senate filibuster. If Democrat Jim Martin can defeat Sen. Saxby Chambliss in Tuesday's runoff election, the Democrats could have a filibuster-proof 60 votes in the U.S. Senate. And that would be a critical protection against Republicans' efforts to subvert and block the change Americans so overwhelmingly voted for on November 4. (Not to mention that Saxby Chambliss is about as far to the right as they come in the U.S. Senate and this could be ...
