Health reform cannot wait

Image
Friend -- The millions of Americans suffering in a health care system that costs too much, and denies too many care, cannot afford another year-long debate. President Obama made that clear at yesterday's bipartisan meeting on reform: While he is listening to good ideas from both sides of the aisle and hopes to move forward in a bipartisan fashion, the American people cannot afford an incremental approach. Watch highlights from the bipartisan meeting here. Yesterday, the President extended a hand to the Republicans and showed he's open to any idea that will help cover the uninsured, cut costs, and give Americans control over their own health care. But he made clear that the millions of Americans who cannot afford insurance can't wait on political games in Washington. After this meeting, all ideas are on the table. Now, Congress must move swiftly to complete and pass a final bill. It was a conversation focused on substance, not process, and it showed. Bo...

From the candidate who I think would do the best for Georgia in replacing Sonny Perdue: From: DuBose Porter <dubose@porterforgeorgia.com> To: danjmatt@bellsouth.net Sent: Fri, February 26, 2010 6:43:57 AM Subject: DuBose's Blog: My wife's announcement. My wife, Carol Porter, announces her candidacy for Lt. Governor. (AP Photo/Erik S. Lesser) "My wife, Carol, announced she is running for Lt. Governor of the state of Georgia today. Over the last several weeks, there has been a viral movement to draft Carol for Lt. Governor that has taken on a life of its own. There truly is no one more qualified or who knows the issues better. Carol is an awesome person and would make an awesome Lt. Governor. She announced this morning at 11 a.m. and as of 6:00 p.m. today, google shows there have been 123 stories posted on her announcement, including The New York Times, The Huffington Post, The Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post . It seems Georgia is finding...

The dynamics of the first husband-wife ticket in Georgia politics and Pete's opposing (?) Flagpole viewpoint

The AJC's excellent writer Jim Galloway's take on the Carol Porter and DuBose Porter political ticket for Georgia. Good quotes and links giving the Michael Thurmond and Casey Cagle positions as well. Pete McCommons of Flagpole seems to like that Mike has announced to him (and seemingly no one else) for Lt. Governor. True American hero needs to be honored, and his murderer needs to be condemned not praised

This government worker is a true American hero who served two tours in Vietnam that we all need to remember, and shun the stupid comments by Rep. Steve King of Iowa somehow giving his killer some sort of justification over tax frustration.  Thanks to the Athens Banner-Herald editor Jim Thompson and their columnist Myra Blackmon for pointing me toward this blog and article. I hope Athens folks who are going out to Austin next week for SxSW remember Mr. Wright when checking out Texas. Remembering Vernon Hunter by Matthew Wright | LikeTheDew.com Posted using ShareThis

Republicans launch anti-Barnes Web site || OnlineAthens.com

Could the Republicans be somewhat hypocritical with the "No Royalty" tag on Roy Barnes? Just ask those who paid for it. That would be the Georgia GOP. It would be somewhat typical of the bizarro world of Georgia politics if Carol Porter's press conference this morning about the possibility of her running with her husband DuBose Porter on a husband and wife ticket could really catch fire and propel them to the Governor's mansion instead. I will never take anything for granted again in the weird world of wrestling known as political hucksterism and taking aim at your opponent perhaps prematurely. It does not cost that much to get a website up and running these days, and I applaud the continued waste of bandwidth and resources by the State Republican party. That is somewhat symbolic as well. The article does not feature a functioning link and I somehow forgot to add it this morning myself. Republicans launch anti-Barnes Web site || OnlineAthens.com
