Video: What's at stake

Image
Friend -- We've all been working hard for months to send a strong Wall Street reform bill to President Obama's desk. Now we're only days away. The final vote could be decided by a razor-thin margin. I've seen reports that we might have enough support, including that of a few Republicans, to pass the bill. But we won't know for sure until the votes are cast. So we're ramping up the pressure now to make sure the Senate passes reform. David Plouffe recorded a message to let you know what's at stake and how you can help make sure we get Wall Street reform over the finish line. Watch the video -- and help us spread the word on reform. This movement has the chance to make history again in the coming days. Wall Street reform doesn't just represent the strongest consumer protections ever proposed -- it's the largest overhaul of our financial regulations since the Great Depression. As we near the final vote, we need to get the word out a...

Will the BOE select a Democrat this time around?

1. Michael Allen Burnette 2. Mark Thomas Capobianco 3. Richard L. Clark 4. Gary Lee Davis 5. Stuart W. McGarity 6. William Henry Rakosnik 7. Glenn Allen Townsend 8. Gregory P. Zengo This is the list emailed to me as of 2:02 pm today. Stuart McGarity is a stockbroker in Athens with Northwestern Mutual, the quiet company (if I remember their tag line correctly). He lives on Lake Wellbrook Drive. Michael Allen Burnette seems to like to ride motorcycles and ATVs. Mark Capobianco runs Cappy's Custom Cabinets in Bogart quite well and is also quite conservative from what I recall. Dr. Zengo has at least one person in San Jose who is not a big fan. This is from a website called Ripoff Report and the links are not mine: I recently attended a couple of courses of Practical CME in Fort Lauderdale, to my disgust the courses were an “infomercial” for various vendors but mainly Practical CME. Dr. Gregory Zengo is a fraud of greatest proportion in that he is continually promoti...

Oconee Board of Education continues to stub their toe on filling slot

The Oconee County Board of Education continues to stumble through the process of replacing Tom Breedlove's Post 5 slot on the Board of Education. They have decided to embargo the release of the names of those who want to be considered until after the deadline has passed, despite the names having already been published in another local blog. Dr. Jackson himself said he was hoping to not release the list until the deadline had passed as it would somehow be unfair to those who have yet to include their names, believing there are people who have yet to include their names before the deadline. Once again this smacks of elitism and the old "we know secrets we are not going to tell you yet because you can't handle the truth." Can someone please tell the Board of Education the more you hide information, the more it is going to come back to bite you on the ass? After three of the six names of potential candidates have been released on the blog of Lee Becker Oconee County O...

Dale Russell report on Oxendine activity on behalf of major financial contributor in Clayton County

Georgia Republican gubernatorial candidate John Oxendine has been linked to an extra marital affair back in Jasper through a reliable source of mine and using the influence of his office for a variety of sleazy activity. Will any of these charges stick and sink his ship before the primary next week? At this point I do not think so, but it could certainly torch his chances in November. This report from the I Team's Dale Russell is nothing shocking or new, except in how fast it came down once the publicity glare got a little too shiny for the particulars involved. The truth is donations do grant access to campaigns and politicians.

Deadline looms to apply for vacant seat on BOE || OnlineAthens.com

I have not met Ms. France nor do I know who the copy editor is on this story, but the first thing I would have done if I were working for the Morris News is tell the reporter to go get the names of the five applied candidates for the office. This is so obvious an editorial decision I cannot imagine what the editor was thinking when they read this story. Deadline looms to apply for vacant seat on BOE || OnlineAthens.com
