Just 7 more supporters in your area

Friend -- We are just 101 days away from the November election. You saw in the President's note below just how determined Republicans and their special-interest allies are to undo what we've accomplished together. Organizing for America is already fighting back with an aggressive campaign plan to make sure they don't get the chance. But we still need 7 donations from your area today to ensure our organizers -- in communities across the country -- get the resources they need to show voters how we've been fighting for them. Please donate $5 today to help us fund our campaign: https://donate.barackobama.com/WallStreetReformed Thanks, Mitch -----------------Original Message----------------- From: Barack Obama Subject: Change Friend -- When you and I set out on this journey three years ago, we knew that ours would be a lengthy struggle to build a new foundation for this country -- one that would require squaring off against the special interests who...

Broun opposes ban on animal abuse videos || OnlineAthens.com

There are times when casting a lone vote against common sense and decency is not worth the price you pay in the polls. Paul Broun is setting himself up to lose some day, some way. Defending "snuff films" absolutely indefensible, and the thought of someone who gets their jollies on watching women crush kittens with their high heels or bare feet makes me vomit, kind of like of Congressman Broun. GOP asks ridiculous meaningless questions which has been something of a tradition recently

The inclusion of the sterile carp question was the subject of much derision, humor and gossip amongst members of his own party at the expense of Oconee County Republican party chair Jay Hanley in the hours I spent in the cramped and crowded Board of Elections office vestibule. Also a large potted plant was unceremoniously dumped over by a zealous local blogger in search of that perfect photograph with the soil spilled all over the floor (and quickly cleaned up) in a scene which I thought was terribly emblematic of the entire Georgia G.O.P. primary process. I only briefly ventured up the stairs to offer my congratulations to Margaret Hale and discovered that suddenly I am old as I could not read at all the projection of the results being manipulated by Blake Giles at the moment I ventured in there around 10:00 pm Primary night. Friend -- When you and I set out on this journey three years ago, we knew that ours would be a lengthy struggle to build a new foundation for this country -- one that would require squaring off against the special interests who had spent decades stacking the deck in their favor. Today, it is clear that you have shifted the odds. This morning, I signed into law a bill that represents the most sweeping reforms of Wall Street since the Great Depression, and the toughest consumer financial protections this nation has ever seen. I know that I am able to do so only because the tens of thousands of volunteers who make up the backbone of this movement overcame the most potent attack ads and the most powerful lobbying the special interests could put forward. Our special-interest opponents and their Republican allies have now set their sights on the elections in November as their best chance to overturn the historic progress we've made together. Quick post race analysis

An unnamed Oconee County official confided in me the key moment when he decided to vote for Margaret Hale over Tammy Gilland last night. "She shouldn't have brought up (Margaret's) sickness," said this political junkie last night. "She should have never mentioned that. It really rubbed a lot people the wrong way." Commissioner Hale seems pretty fit and hale these days but did have neck surgery not all that long ago. She missed a couple of meeting during the winter. Gilland made only one reference in passing to Hale's health but it was at a critical juncture of an important debate when people were making up their mind about who to support in the Board of Commissioners race. Although it was not really the case, the perception also was that Gilland was the candidate brought on by Oconee County Board of Commissioners chairman G. Melvin Davis and some saw the Gilland - Hale race as a referendum on the recent reorganization of the reporting structure of ...

Huckaby wins 113th nod without a run-off

Former University of Georgia fundraiser Hank Huckaby managed to escape a run-off with 51% of the vote in an expensive race in the 113th House of Representatives district G.O.P nomination. Huckaby defeated Tommy Malcom with 30% of the vote and tea party favorite Kirk Shook with 19%. Huckaby will run against Democratic candidate Suzy Compere for the seat in November.
